I think the NIL and transfer portal are both bad for college football, but not sure which one is worse.. If I wanted to watch players get paid or free agency I would watch the NFL, I hate everything about the NFL.. Why are we trying to turn college football into the NFL?

I don’t dislike either one in theory. But not a fan of how it’s playing out when you combine them where you’re constantly re-recruiting your best players so they don’t leave and every guy in the portal (presumably) turns into an open bidding war

Like others have said in the past, the combination is 10x worse than either one alone.

Both.
Both are terrible.
It would be different if the NIL had a cap and everyone (each college) was capable of offering the same NIL amount per player, but it’s not like that.
The transfer portal brings about tampering (Tank Bigsby, for example) because anyone can transfer immediately.
The two combined are bad because the “successful” schools can offer crazy NIL deals to big-time players at other schools, AKA tampering, and steal them away.
College football free agency without any college having a true cap.
It sucks.

"Transfer portal" has always existed, it just wasn't called the transfer portal.

Neither both are great for the sport imo, I believe there should be no restrictions in either aspect tbh

Neither. Why put undue burdens on players that you wouldn't on a regular student or coach?

Transfer portal is NIL

Well thanks for the under the table deals all those years that kept weaker schools down! I like this and it opens up competitive all around.

Transfer portal is way worse in my opinion. It’s important for these kids to develop and it’s so much more enjoyable as a fan to have a recruiting class to get excited about and watch them grow. Now recruiting doesn’t mean so much as half of them leave in two years. Plus the transfer portal allows programs like Alabama to never pay for their recruiting misses. If they have a deficiency they just go get the top transfer at that position.
NIL has its downsides but I’m hopeful over time the spending tightens up. People won’t be so willing to spend thousands of dollars on a kid that isn’t a sure thing.

Both are fine by themselves. But combined together it's a circus. Not sure it'd be legal but wish there was a cap to NIL so the end result wasn't just who's paying the most.
Some of these states that allow tax write offs for donating to these NIL companies are a joke. If not for that I would think these bidders would wise up in a few years realizing their ROI on an 18 year old isn't as predictable as they thought

NIL I was 100% for but it was implemented in the absolute worst way possible. Once Northwestern tried to unionize they had to know that this would eventually come. Having 10 ish years to come up with a plan only to blindly tell teams to go nuts is seriously one of the most inept major decisions I’ve ever seen. Enron had better leadership than the frickheads in the ncaa.
Portal I don’t mind but there should still be the one year sit out for anyone not a junior or senior.

Neither. Telling legal adults they can't work while you make millions off their labor is anti-American and something China would do. Let's put a cap on coaches salaries and restrict their movement then we can talk about player restrictions. Also limit profits to the University. If you all want to keep this an amateur game, then let's go the way of the Ivy schools.

Gonna be alot of bust getting paid big Money. I think players shouldnt be able to sign NIL deals until after they have played a year whether that be as a true or redshirt freshman. This way an accurate pay scale can be applied for players that have proved themselves. I Also think the transfer portal should not be an option until after a player has been with a school for 2 years or more. They need rules because right now this is combination looks like a disaster in the making.

NIL by far. It's going to ruin a bunch of kids that are green to the ways of the world, before they get out in it.

Yep, it sure is for Texas A&M! No way Texas A&M would've gotten the number 1 recruiting class.

The NIL just upped the stakes. Players were already getting paid.
NIL does bring legit businessmen that can actually use their advertising budgets for more than just game day ads. People have been paying celebrities forever to advertise stuff, why not let them make what they can make?
Hell, Arnold Palmer was one of the highest paid athletes well into his golden years and 40 years after he was competitive in golf. I don't see anyone hating on him.
I see the NIL not really changing much. You have your tiers of teams with money just like you always had it.
The portal? Guys are leaving so fast it almost makes no sense to even sign HS kids sometimes but this is these kids lives. If they aren't going to play, then they should be able to leave.
It does bother me to see the stars leaving smaller schools chasing that NIL money but who can blame them. Most won't go pro and $100,000 could change their lives. Damn right I would do it.
Bottom line is neither is ruining the sport. Changing it? Yes. People won't like it but people hate change and always have.
