1-7 scheduling model gaining momentum per SI’s Ross Dellinger

Said as much on the Jordy Cullota show this morning. He was in Destin all week and while they didn’t take an official vote, the movement is in favor of the 1-7 schedule model with no divisions, 1 permanent opponent, and roaring the other 14 schools every other year, with a full home and home rotation every 4 years.
Main influences at the moment are around maximizing SEC bowl/playoff berths, which the majority now believe is best accomplished via 1-7.
Some secondary rivalry games would not be played annually under this plan, but with 4 OOC games left they can still be scheduled out of conference if the schools want.
Official decision expected late summer.

I know Tennessee is probably pushing HARD for 1-7 (with their static rival being Vandy).

this would not only be logically stupid but would pretty much kill the SEC as we've known it for nearly 100 years. It is baffling why anyone would think this is the best method instead of having 3 permanent opponents.

May be a dumb question by why isn’t 2-6 an option?

What would the 1-7 schedule model look like?

How are they ever going to get that through with both Alabama and Auburn having two games that have prevented every other proposal in the past to get through? I just can't see AU/UGA and UT/Bama not being played every year

I have no idea what that would mean for LSU.
All of our “rivals” have a bigger priority rival:
UF - UGA
OM - MSU
Bama - Auburn/Tenn
Ark - A&M? (Maybe most likely choice?)
A&M - Ark/Texas
MSU - OM
Aub - Bama/UGA (second most likely?)
I guess we can fall on our sword and take on Vandy every year

Georgia-Auburn
Alabama-Tennessee
Texas-Oklahoma
Ole Miss-LSU
4 of the most historic interstate rivalries in college football, gone from being yearly contests.
I don't get it.

Hate to see it.
Will they have a press conference to announce LSU, Ole Miss, and State officially joining the Big 12?

In effect, you would have two permanent opponents.
For instance, Alabama’s permanent opponent will be Tennessee and Tennessee’s permanent opponent will be Vanderbilt. So Tennessee will play Alabama and Vanderbilt every year.

I'm a little mixed here. 3-6 makes more sense historically. On one hand, I don't want to lose the UGA game (regardless of recent results). But, part of me wouldn't mind getting a bigger variety of opponents and having a different roadmap to navigate every year, especially with the newcomers to the conference.
But, I also suspect AU and UGA would probably work it out as an additional OOC game, which would negate the opportunity for Auburn to fill one of those spots with an interesting OOC opponent. So that invalidates some of my curiosity as to how a 1-7 would work, as we'd be trading in conference variety for less OOC variety.
The only thing I truly don't like about 3-6 is that most everyone will get some permanent opponent that is meaningless to them (based on projections I've seen).

My guess would be
OM/MSU
Bama/Auburn
Florida/UG
USCe/UK
OU/Texas
Mizzo/Arky
A&M/LSU (maybe swap A&M and Arky?
Tenn/Vandy
OM/MSU
Bama/Auburn

Mizzo/Arky
A&M/LSU (maybe swap A&M and Arky?

3-6 is the best. Hell no to 1-7

This is such bullshite.

Prime example of how money is destroying the sport. 100 year rivalries? Nah. Give us the most profitable set up. Tradition is taking a backseat and tradition is what makes college football special.

If this becomes reality, it pisses me off beyond description. Georgia/Auburn is the 7th most played rivalry in CFB and tied for the second-most outside of the Ivy League. 126 games since 1892. 126! How can you get rid of that?

If it’s 1-7 I would assume Texas and OU are paired together and we are paired with LSU
3-6 with Texas LSU and Arkansas was my dream but that’s probably unlikely

Expansion and greed have killed what made this conference great.

None of the things people usually mention as diminishing their interest in college football --open transfers, NIL etc -- bother me in the least compared to all the conference expansions.
