Why isn't Texas supporting its football team?

Last week it was reported that Casey Thompson said that the NIL opportunities were better in Nebraska than they were in Austin, it caught most of us by surprise. Sure, Texas hasn’t been the juggernaut we grew up knowing them to be, but they hadn’t fallen off the wagon to the extent that the Cornhuskers have since leaving the Big 12.
Thompson credited the “close-knit” feel of Lincoln, Nebraska as to why NIL was flourishing in Lincoln, but now he dives even deeper into the claim with Bussin’ With The Boys, a show affiliated with Barstool Sports.

Listen in as Thompson opens up about the benefits of being a Cornhusker in 2022.

quote:

“If you’re a starter here on the football team you can make over six figures” -Casey Thompson on @BussinWTB

quote:

The first thing that Thompson noticed about NIL deals in Lincoln was the number of players that had vehicles. “17 or 18” players getting a vehicle through name, image, and likeness is impressive, especially when Thompson says that only three Longhorns were getting the same kind of opportunity in Austin.
“If you’re a starter [at Nebraska] you can make over six figures.”
What a quote.
Now, you may only win four games a year, but yeah, six figures is hard to pass up.

I don't believe that at all. Not saying that Nebraska doesn't support their team, but Texas should be fine on NIL front.

It's not that Texas isn't facilitating NIL deals, it's that Nebraska's alumni are far more motivated to turn the ship around via NIL due to their location out in BFE.

I like Casey. he played his guts out, even when he was really hurt last year. There were games where he was incredible and we still lost because our defense is on the level of a junior high school team. Then, he was essentially replaced by one of the highest rated QB prospects of all-time who has yet to do anything meaningful on the field.

He has found a new home in Nebraska and has been embraced by Lincoln. What did you expect him to say? Did you expect him to sing the praises of Texas?

Just because Casey didn't get NIL at Texas doesn't mean nobody did.

The easy answer to all this is that Texas knew that Casey was good but not a difference maker. Nebraska sees him as a messiah. Texas (boosters) knew better than to lay out cash for the dude.

It's no different at Nebraska for Adrian Martinez. Nebraska boosters weren't going to invest in him.

Either he's just straight up lying or Texas is pathetic.

People joke about Bama players and chargers, but when I was at LSU, i lived in this brand new, very expensive apartment complex all the athletes conveniently lived in as well. The parking garage was littered with brand new chargers, challengers, and camerros. Fournette cycled through 6 cars that year A mercedes, Audi, BMW, Tahoe, then 2 more mercedes.

Pretty much every football and basketball player was driving a new car.

Seems like I would seek a few more sources to confirm this on top of the former Texas QB that everyone knew was being replaced.

This. It was very recently they were allegedly paying some ridiculous amount of money to their OL, and given how that school loves to show how much money they have, there's a 0% chance Nebraska is handing out more NIL cash than they are.

This part also makes me laugh. Welcome to 1990 Nebraska. 17 or 18 is a low number tbh. More than that were driving nice cars at big schools before it was even legal to give cars to players through NIL

I liked Casey at first, but he was kinda a douchebag. I know I shouldn't really be expecting a black dude to get into the eyes of Texas after 2020, but he wasn't into it. And then he kept blaming the offensive line and other teammates instead of just being a leader and taking responsibility.

It was just a huge dropoff from Sam in those categories.

I believe this more to do with Nebraska valuing Casey more than Texas did. Texas has better options, Nebraska did not. Current Texas QB Ewers is a millionaire.

Turns out college football players are more popular in Lincoln than Austin. As I've said before, the players in big cities will have to compete with other big city people for advertising/NIL dollars. If you're good enough to overcome big city celebrities/entertainers then you're good enough to get attention anywhere.

Tx slogan starting last year is “All Gas No Brakes”. So with Elon Musk down the street making electric cars they eliminate potential NIL

New slogan? All Electric No Breakers

I think sometimes a city can be too big to support NIL. Too much competition and things get drowned out. NEB offers 100% focused audience (college football) thus why its easier to get players NIL. Most of Austin could care less about football too busy buying and being soy.

I wonder if it’s a school policy thing. Freshmen can’t have a car on campus even if they’re a football player.

Sips have some of the smallest athletic supporters in football.
