Our recruiting has to improve somehow

And Im not blaming Pittman on this. This has been an Arkansas problem for a while now. We are at a significant disadvantage compared to other schools because of our location and our lower population numbers. I get it. But look at who all is ahead of us in our conference:
1. Georgia
2. A&M
3. Bama
4. Ohio State
5. Texas
6. Penn State
7. Notre Dame
8. North Carolina
9. Michigan
10. Oklahoma
11. Kentucky
12. Auburn
13. Missouri
14. Stanford
15. Tennessee
16. Clemson
17. ARKANSAS
Still sucks getting the same approximate recruiting classes year after year. The only thing I can think of that will change it is NIL deals. But not those little used car lot and mom and pop restaurant deals, but BIG TIME deals. Thats our only hope. Hard to be at the top of the heap when we are recruiting middle of the pack. And when Texas and OU come in it will only make it worse.

Jerry needs to repent for the Chad mess and start giving out huge NIL deals

I don't really think there's much difference in quality between the #11-#17 classes but it does suck seeing Kentucky and Missouri ahead of us

Yeah those two really rustled my jimmies. But I see your point.
Im not disappointed in this class, more pointing out that it has to get better before we can compete at the level of the Alabamas of the world.

Allegedly Mizzou has some first class NIL system set up. They’re basically buying their class which is exactly what we should be doing. Drink can’t coach for shite but he figured out the NIL game for sure.

Recruiting now is only going to get way better if you throw a ton of NIL $$ at everyone.
Texas just had its longest losing streak since the 1950s and they're going to end up with potentially a top 5 class. A&M could end up with the #1 class.
Doesn't matter how dirty it is, those two programs are laying the blueprint for free agency in college.
What makes it so disappointing, is that Arkansas is in a better spot than most of the other SEC Schools from a potential financial booster backing standpoint.

This is pretty much my thought, I think you have to be careful trying to fix issues that will always be there and instead lean into what we can do well.
I think the key for Arkansas having success is just getting the best coaches possible at developing talent. Some of the recruiting issues will take care of themselves if you keep winning.

Don't look for the big corporations to throw big money towards the NIL.
Walmart is busy building bike trails and Tyson building playgrounds.
Big money donors are just not committed to the football program. It's been that way for years.
Our program for the most part has been squeaky clean and don't look for that to change.
Coaching and player development are our keys to 8-10 win seasons in the SEC.

It can it just that Arkansas sucks with the bagmen. Slow to changes and get left behind as usual.

Arkansas never went completely dirty when it came to winning. NIL makes it legal out in the open but Arkansas isn't taking advantage.

They have been buying players for decades, Arkansas has not.

Who in Arkansas? Texas is almost 30 million in population which gives out a lot more NIL deals. Walmart doesn't care and Tyson is silent. That leaves Arkansas basically zero major deals in the state.

Recruiting rankings vary by site. 247 has us with the #11 class in the country.
That’s ahead of teams like OU, Auburn, Clemson and Ole Miss, all of whom traditionally land higher than we do in these rankings.
Here’s another thing. This is the highest rated class we’ve had since Petrino’s 2009 class. That class, while it had highly ranked with guys like Cobi Hamilton, Knile Davis and DD Jones who did great things at UA, also had a shitload of washouts and guys who either never made it to campus or who flamed out after a year on campus and didn’t do anything.
Recruiting matters, but so does development and roster management.

This class is what improved recruiting looks like for us. The next step is consistently being in the top 20. Usually we follow up this type of class with a class ranked outside the top 30.

We'll be just fine if we can sign a top 20 or better class every year.
The differences between 5-20 rankings are negligible and largely depend upon who is signing the kid. Certainly what happens after a 3 star or better gets to campus matters more than what he did in HS.

This is true. The problem is we have zero 5 star players and five 4 star players. Contrast that with most of the schools ahead of us who have at least one 5 star player and ten or more 4 star players.
They are signing twice as many 4 stars as us plus a handful of 5 star players, meanwhile we have to bake our bread on developing 3 star guys.

#11 on 247 and we're complaining?

I'm not one of those simpleton boomers who yell "stars don't matter!" to make myself feel better.
However, as has always been the case, recruiting is just one piece of the puzzle. You also have to build players through a great strength and conditioning program, develop and coach them, and put them in a good position to win on game day.
Chad Morris recruited very well, but was horrendous at the other facets of running a program. Sark came into Fayetteville just a few months ago with far more 4 and 5 stars than we'll ever have, but they were neither developed well nor were they put in a good position to even be competitive in that game. Ditto for LSU. And A&M for that matter.
Pittman and his staff seems to do as good of a job as any staff we've had at all of those aforementioned facets of program management.
