Any missouri fans want to chime in…what do y’all see in him?
The product on the field isn’t stellar, and he doesn’t seem to be lighting the world on fire in recruiting. So what gives? Surprised he received an extension..

Look at the program. Put Smart or Saban there, they wouldn’t light the world on fire either. It’s a small budget school without any winning history.

Maybe I’m expecting more than the program. Imo they should be primed to pull kids from the Midwest & Texas, they have decent facilities, and a pretty decent academic program… just baffles me y’all don’t put in effort to compete in the SEC

Finished last year #15 with only 19 recruits which is fantastic for us.

They played pretty much everyone on their schedule really competitively, the product on the field was solid. I mean we are talking about Missouri, if you ask me it is by far the hardest SEC school to recruit a player to. Just look at the schools they have to recruit against in the conference. I think Mizzou is one of the few schools in the country who looks at the program with realistic expectations

If MU has used the OC we just lost the record would have been much better.
I wonder if Hamden was told he wouldn't get the OC gig which is why he took the Boise job and does that mean Harsin may show up.

I’m not sure why he catches so much grief. Seems like he’s doing ok. If they had a better QB this year they would be much better and probably would have beaten Georgia.

What really blows my mind...3 consecutive classes at #43 from Odom. That is consistency. Also worth note...the average ranking of the 2 transfers coming in to Missouri are significantly higher than the 9 exiting.

I think this is where you are dead wrong. Look at what a good head coach can do at a historically irrelevant and awful program like Kansas State under Snyder or TCU under Patterson.
Hell, Pinkel won Mizzou's division five times in seven years and had us within a breath of playing for a national championship in 2007 and 2013.
I also know you're being a bit of an arse, but Mizzou with the right guy at the helm has the population base, alumni, and resources to be a very good program.
Historic underachievers, undeniably so. Can't really argue with the lack of winning history, at least not in recent memory.
To answer OP, Drink inherited a pretty bare cupboard. Anyone who was paying attention to Mizzou football at the time Odom was fired knew that it was going to be a bit rough for the next guy's first two or three years because we had very little talent left on the roster. I really like Odom and think he gets unfairly criticized by a lot of Mizzou fans, but it is undeniable that he did not recruit at a high enough level for us to compete in the SEC.
Then enter Drink, and he immediately impressed on the recruiting trail, landing our best ever class in just his second season. I was also fairly impressed by his .500 SEC record in the shortened season with a pretty underwhelming roster.
But now we're entering year four, recruiting has slumped a bit, and Drink's players will be upperclassmen this season. He needs to improve, I think most Mizzou fans will expect seven wins as the floor this season or his seat is going to get real hot.

He's made a bowl game all 3 seasons at the helm so far so it's not like he's absolutely tanking or anything. Now that his recruits are becoming upper classman I expect improvement.
He's been stubborn about giving up playcalling but I think if he gets an OC (which I've heard was a condition of the extension) we'll improve.
Realistically, I expected 6-6 going into this season which is exactly where we wound up. With the exception of the K-State game and Auburn game, I thought we performed at least adequately if not well. Gave Georgia their toughest game of the season.

I think Drinkwitz can coach and knows the game. He may just not be a good head coach. His tantrums on the sideline during the entirety of the game are emotional overreactions. A lot of the time it’s over something pretty small in the scheme of the game. I have to think that rubs off on players. Like, he’ll still be bitching and whining about something 2 plays after something happened that’s not worth getting that emotional about.

Biggest issue in the 3 years is the QB position. Mizzou hasn't been able to recruit 4* or 5* across the board to compensate for poor QB play, especially the OL. He made some piss poor hires year 2 that wrecked our defense and season.
Mizzou should be a decent landing spot for some transfer portal contributors. The staff nailed the transfer portal last year on defense (brought in 8 contributors via portal last year on that side of the ball). The same needs to happen on offense this year.
We have been average for nearly a decade. The fans are itching for a bigger season. It would have been nice to go into year 4 without so many question marks for the team (QB, OL, TE, DE, OC).
