Tax writeoff could start to make it worthwhile. Combine that with buying extra TUF seats and selling IB,DSOR and other games of that nature and you can start to see it being more reasonable.


While I qualify for the young alumni program though I'll probably stick it out in there

isn't this type of expense based on how much of the deduction is phased out due to your income level. I took a good bit of accounting classes. I'm sure someone else can explain it better than me, but I'm not sure how much of a tax benefit you really gain by including it in not for profit/charitable contributions. I assume most of those people have so much money its of no consequence to them. Thats why I say this.

We got scholarship seats starting last year. Pretty sure our seats are in the "Gold" zone and are excellent...between the 40 and 45, row 31, behind the AU bench (shady side of the stadium)...sun went behind the stadium right at kick-off this past Saturday. We're right behind the players families which is pretty cool...saw Dee Ford's, Steven Clark's, and CJ Uzomah's parents a lot last year. Plenty high enough to see over the sideline.

When we signed up for scholarship for the 2013 season, I asked how long it would take to improve to club level, and they said 2 to 3 years. That said, am I really willing to swap 40 yard line seats for club level down near the end zone and possibly on the east side (more in the sun)? Pick your poison.

Our donation for 2014 was $5,700 with $3,472 tax deductible. I suspect that varies a bit from year to year as ticket prices and the number of home games may vary. The cost has increased steadily...I started eyeballing scholarship when we first got season tickets in 2004 or 2005, and I think it was $4,500 for a pair back then.

Other perks:

- Free (pretty) good food in the stadium. It is limited to 3 trips, but it's all you can eat/carry...not sure I've made more than 2 trips. Also, free program and shakers.

- Scholarship Only entrance...very nice if you arrive close to kick-off.

- Parking pass included. Good news, your car is relatively close. Bad news, you will sit in gridlock for 1 hour+ after a big game. It's just as fast to park on the outskirts of town and walk back to your car.

- Purchase Away and post-season tickets at cost. Big whoop unless it's UGA or the IB since the seats will be terrible and you can often buy from a scalper for a reasonable price. But, post-season is cool. I paid $800 a pop in 2010 through a broker (pre-scholarship days for us) and felt like I got a helluva a deal (I'd heard $3K and up). I don't remember how much last season's SEC Champs tickets were, but I think our BCS tickets were $325 each.

If you have any questions, the folks in charge of premium seating are very nice, patient, and helpful.

It's not cheap, but it is BIG improvement of the game day experience over upper deck. Good luck!!

Now this was way back in '05ish as we normally sit in our own seats but... Had club level seats given to me so I sat in them instead of my own for a homecoming game. Talked with the lady sitting beside me who had her club level seats for 15+ years at the time. She said her friend had been waiting for club level seating to open up for at least 8-9 years at that time. Not sure how much things have changed since then, this was almost 9 years ago.

Be careful and get stuff in writing, ie. email.

I did the scholarship thing last year and at that time the seats were unknown due to the time of the year and not knowing who would renew or not. I was told that the seats would be no worse than than between the 30's. Tickets came that Fall, and I was on the 10! Didn't have to throw a fit or anything, just made it clear that this wasn't what was promised and I had the email to back it up. Ended up in section 29.

Another piece of advice, if you plan on keeping them forever and would like to pass them to kids when you die, you can't as an individual. But, if your TUF account is in your businesses name, as long as the business is still "alive" tickets can pass to whoever, forever.

TUF general seats (grey, blue, orange, gold) are transferrable once - and only to a surviving spouse, not to a child or other family member.

Scholarship seats can be transferred multiple times and from generation to generation.
