If true, that would be the first AU coaching search that went that way.

Makes a shite ton of sense. Allows Sumerall to keep his season alive at Tulane, and time to plan on how to keep our current players from jumping and preserve the recruits. Meanwhile in Baton Rouge,.......that soap opera has a lot of downside. Even if they get him, this whole ordeal is like taking a bite out of a shite sandwich. Hard to swallow.

The moron on the Locked on Ole Miss pod said Drinkwitz is our, "Pie in the sky," pick for head coach. We're just keeping Jon Simrall warm while we wait for Drink to let us know...

If true, then I agree. I just cant believe that this is what it comes down to.

Ole Miss is delusional. Why would Sumrall be more interested in the Ole Miss job?
It's not like Kiffin is going to leave that roster chock full of talent.

Kiffin is going to assassinate that roster, if he leaves. I actually find what he's doing to them distasteful, asf.
The part I find hilarious is that he thinks Drink is our clear #1, and Sumrall is an afterthought. I think Drink is legit, but the notion that he's our, "pie in the [fricking] sky," is absurd.

I hate to think that Drink or Sumrall is the best we can do

Ive heard whispers from some of my family on the left coast that USCs Riley is being talked about as a very real possibility to leave LA for Auburn. Apparently he feels he isn’t getting the resources promised by the administration when he was hired.
But that’s no more likely than anything else. I’m in no way suggesting I have any sources. Just rumblings from someone who works at The Coliseum
He would immediately jump to the top of my list…

If it is him, we'll know soon enough. after the loss to Oregon tonight, and only one game left against a bad UCLA team, about the only game they would have left would be whatever bowl game they get into. and he probably wouldn't stick around to coach that game if he's coming back here. that would be an easy day after the Iron Bowl announcement which would line right up with Cohen's statement about having someone within 24 hours of the Iron Bowl.
ETA: Right now they're projected to the Alamo Bowl to play either Houston or BYU.

Please, sweet dear baby Jesus. Please allow Auburn to hire a coach that actually is a splash

Because our program has been so bad for so long and our defense this year has been the first consistent good thing we've seen for many years.
Auburn ranks 112th in opponent passing yards per game (13th in SEC).
9th in SEC for total defense.
8th in SEC for scoring defense.
Auburn does rank 10th nationally for run defense, but it's pretty much negated by the 112th against the pass.
Our defense is competent when compared directly to our offense, but our defense is NOT stellar when compared to other SEC defenses.

And then toss in field position because of our un-usually down squad of kickers.

Vandy and Baylor games really bit into our defensive statistics

Next week likely will even more. Bama has a good QB.

I remember the last time AU hired a Head Football Coach who was a former SEC player, coached as an SEC assistant coach, and then moved on to be Head Football Coach at two lesser college football schools. i dont whom are you thinking of? because i cant think of any AU HC who meets all three of those conditions
Pat Dye. Played at UGA, Asst Coach under Bear Bryant, HC at East Carolina and Wyoming.
