I'm surprised we haven't heard about Durkin interviewing for any HC jobs.
A mid-level SEC defense for a terrible team, coordinated by a previous absolute failure of a head coach not getting looks at head coaching vacancies surprises you?

If he doesn't, to borrow from Robin Williams, we'll just start taking Fukitol.

Are you going to melt until they announce our next Pat Dye (Jon Sumrall)?
Who are his next Wayne Hall and Pat Sullivan? That's what I'd need to know. And he won't get a grace period to find Pat Sullivan (sure as hell ain't neal brown or Jake Spavital)

Sumrall had been offered the job and accepted
So what do you think the interview with Florida stuff was about if he's done accepted? He doesn't do that if AU was already a done deal.

One plausible explanation was that he scheduled it before he had an offer from Auburn and canceled it because he reached a deal with Auburn. No idea if that’s the case but it could be.

Hopefully, but you wouldn't think so listening to the media.
AU needs a QB developer in the worst way.
Even the off years would at least be fun to watch.
The offensive system merry-go-round at AU has been ridiculous.

Many around here were pushing hard for him to take over. I can assure you that there are idiots at other programs ready to hand him the keys, too.

We also need a A+ OL Coach/Ace Recruiter because we're still sorely lacking in that area as well.

Agree with this. I understand we cant win them all but damn this offense has been more boring to watch than HS games on TV. Win or be entertaining, at LEAST give us one of them

He is getting push here because of the intrinsic value of him already being here (ie: players like him and therefore lots of players are likely to stay if he is the HC). That wouldn't apply at any external program. So no, there aren't idiots at other programs ready to hand him the keys. Its not like the Auburn roster is going to get up and walk with him to Tulane if they decided to hire him.

You sure about that? I can think of a few interim head coaches that got hired as the head coach, with generally the same or less experience and/or failures as a previous HC.

What if it’s a done deal with Sumrall and they plan to announce Sunday after Iron Bowl but Tulane makes the Playoff?
Do we let him stay and coach them or make him come on to Auburn. Him staying there and also trying to deal with recruiting, portal, and building a new staff would not be ideal.

That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that the qualities that makes him a candidate at Auburn would not apply if it was some other school looking at him to become their HC.
For the same reason, notice how we aren't looking at any other team's DC or OC? Why would we only look at our own DC as a candidate? Its because of the hypothetical intrinsic value of him already being here.
