Not saying this is the answer, but it may be worth a look at this point.

Our best option may be an HC at the fcs level. I know this should be below AU, but they may be the some of the few proven coaches to maintain success that we could definitely get. John Grass has done well at JSU.

Russ Huesman has taken UTC from 0-12 seasons to being a serious contender in the playoffs. Bringing David Blackburn with him would be a huge upgrade at AD, but he's a UT alum and prob the favorite to take over for the vols.

These guys have never had the talent of an sec school. It would be a huge promotion with little to zero buyout, and e seriously need to upgrade our football facilities to keep up.

I realize a hire like this wouldn't excite the fan base, but everyone seems to agree that a proven HC w a history of maintaining a program is what we need.

A lot of this should be fairly obvious, but for those who think we have a legit shot at someone like David Shaw, this article makes a lot of good points.

Yeah... outside of harbaugh at Michigan (which took tons of luck for UM to even pull off), most FBS hires have been uninspiring... like smart at UGA or McElwain at UF. Solid hires but certainly not sure fire successes.

Who's coaching at Wyoming?

Last time we hired a coach from there, it worked out pretty well.

I still say if we go after someone younger we go with P.J. Fleck from Western Michigan.

Perhaps the only affordable option is make Kevin Steele Head Coach. Let Gus work with the QB's and tell him to STFU.

That would be quite the awkward working environment. Besides, Steele would just fire Gus after next year.

But why do you think Hatcher fits the "yes man" mold? Just curious, because I "know" him.

I was totally against him at first but youre starting to make a compelling argument. could he also be a bad enough decision to finally rid us of Jacobs too?

Jeff Fischer would never leave the NFL for a college team.

He will need to have a team to leave. Easy to see him being canned before the year is up

What about the guy from EMCC? If we are going to go JUCO let's go big.

I hope we get a new president who will hire Petrino. Petrino has won at every college he's been at.

This whole thread is crazy balls.

90% of these names are people who are known quantities and would bring their own failures that would just supplant Gus' failures. At least Gus will (probably) iron some of his shite out over time. Firing a 4 year coach for an FCS/Fedora/whomever middler is just pathetic and a terrible use of resources. Frickin' Gus Malzahn was a great G5 coach, why the hell would you want to repeat the process?!

We need to Jetgate this thing. Put out feelers to known quantities like Herman, Petrino. Shoot for the moon with guys like Chip Kelly and offer them the world - worst they can say is no. If we do not swing for the fences we are spit roasted for another 5 years at least.

Can only hope there's something that makes him want to be in the SEC again.
