my judgement in these matters is suspect, as i thought we should have gone all in on Napier after we shitcanned Gustav

then i considered Fickell the best candidate in 2022

but then again i was proven right on what an incredibly bad choice Freezus was, so theres that

anyway, forget Kiff & Cignetti, they’re going nowhere

Key/Lea/Dilly wont leave their alma maters for AU, so they’re out

Lashlee is the most likely guy the PTB will push, and that might not be the worst choice, but i’d prefer looking elsewhere

Sumrall is intriguing, and i like what Golesh is doing at USF

if those two are uninterested, we might as well get a youngish coordinator type but i don’t know who would be the best fit

ETA: if we went the “throw an outrageous amount of money at a big name” route i’d still go after Duckman, err Cristobal

This logic makes zero sense to me. Durkin was absolute arse as the HC at Maryland and didn't even make it to year three after a player died, whereas Lashlee and Dillingham are both winning. Under what pretense would you love to give Durkin the job and riot if Lashlee or Dillingham were hired? Furthermore, who else would hire Durkin as their HC? I haven't heard his name anywhere even with these openings coming up. Guys like Lashlee and Dillingham would absolutely garner attention in the market.

Note that I don't even think that either of those two have any reason to even leave their current jobs. Dillingham is at his alma-mater.

Because you can essentially give Durkin a limited run for free. If it still sucks, clean house. We need to avoid so called offensive guys, especially ones that came up under Gus.

Key has a Freeze type record until this year, and is winning with a covid QB. Not impressive

Tony Elliot of UVA. Should have hired him years ago. Great selection for HFC at AU!

Id take Dilly over Rhett. Dilly seams to have some dog in him and wants it all.

Rhett seams like the type to be content with 8 wins a year

Look closer. He has transformed a below-average GT into a competitive team ... particularly on defense.

And that QB you're running down? ..... is number 2 in the ACC with a qbr (82) nearing that of Carson Beck. (85). Jackson Arnold is at 66 qbr.. Haynes King has 5-0 undefeated GT on a track to compete for the conference title ... and Freeze had the opportunity to secure King in the portal , instead going with JA.

Brent Key is hungry ... and it shows.

What is a "COVID QB"? Someone who has gotten an extra year of eligibility? You fail to mention that Haynes King was a complete failure at A&M who Georgia Tech has managed to turn into a 3-year well above average starter. This wasn't some elite QB that they lucked out on. Their offense is perfectly built to extract every bit of talent out of Haynes King.

I wanted Cristobal after Gus and I wanted Lane after Harsin.

This time, give me who I want please.

You prove my point. Every offense works well with an experienced QB. Those mid-20 QBs won't be around anymore. The Tulane/Memphis coaches have better track records. Key has been terrible until this year. Ga Tech is fine with 7 win seasons. We are not.

Your point makes no sense, nor did I prove it.

Haynes King had just one season of actual game-experience prior to him arriving at Georgia Tech. In what way was he an "experienced QB"? He had a whopping 226 career pass attempts at Texas A&M - that is nothing. Jackson Arnold had more pass attempts last season alone at Oklahoma, in a season wherein he didn't even start every game. Jackson Arnold has a combined 480 career pass attempts right now - more than twice as many than what King had upon arrival to Georgia Tech.

You seem to be trying to make the argument that Haynes King is only good because he is "old", but his play started turning around as soon as he stepped foot at Georgia Tech in 2023 in what would have only been his second full NCAA season. He wasn't "old" then, nor was he "experienced". He was a complete reclamation project.

I'd take Franklin

I probably would too.

He's probably a high floor coach. And 5 games ago it would have cost you 10-11 million to get him.

Now, all the sudden, he might be available for the cost of any attractive higher profile coordinator.

To be clear, I'd be hiring him with the idea that, if resourced like Hugh, he'd quickly get us to a 8-9 win level with some mild upside. Auburn could use that.

King is about to turn 25 years old. He is a grown man. The mental gap between an 18/19 and 25 year old is huge. Players in his original recruiting class are signing 2nd NFL contracts. If you can't see how this effects a coach winning, then we can't have this conversation and you are just wanting to argue.

I wanted Curt Cignetti for both hires.

I can play along...Lane only has 2 C USA titles to his belt. What has he done at Ole Miss?
Overall Conf
Ole Miss: 50–18 28–16

I don't really think that is great at Ole Miss given NIL & he is the portal king.

Mario has UM rolling...don't see him leaving his Alma Matter &
his HC Record is below....so yeah...I don't think I would like having him here without the Miami money....
Overall 89–76
Bowls 3–5

shite, forgot he was a Cane

he wont leave there

too bad he’s 61 years old, but Vandy OC Tim Beck has a solid resume

not to mention he has a good shot to go 4-0 vs Freezus as a coach

ETA: Beck - Not A Loser, Baby
