QB Sucks In His First Game, Season Is Doomed Despite Close Win Over P5 Team

passing: 9-19 (47.4%) for 99 yards, 5.2 ypa, no TDs or INTs

The biggest thing I’m going to hold onto is I don’t think there is much room for Brown to play worse from a decision making standpoint. The interceptions were very bad decisions forcing the ball for two of them. The deep one, completely didn’t see the backside defender. The one over the middle just inexcusable bad decision into traffic. The tipped one, late throw with pressure. Should have pumped and ran or just ran imo. Though can’t remember if it was a 3rd down or not.
Just can’t be that sloppy. If that continues, going to be a long year.

I anticipate more tipped balls due to Browns slow/janky release.

I’d be curious to see what the stats were in the p4 games at usf. It didn’t seem like he had a lot of issues with it in those.

His throwing motion drives me crazy, he can’t get the ball out of his hand fast at all.

What worries me is Brown's bad decision making, not just on those interceptions but taking some sacks. I rewatched the game again this morning and Jesse Palmer says it several times "Just throw the ball away at this point instead of taking these sacks and TFL's."
For a 5th year senior with alot of starts and years in this system, I felt like Byrum's decision making was bad. I don't want to say that he seemed overwhelmed at times but....
He just made several mistakes that a QB with his experience normally wouldn't make. How will he do on the road at Tennessee, Ole Miss, UGA and Bama if we are in a tight game and a loud, rowdy stadium? The stadium yesterday was about 75% Auburn fans and was very mundane. I will also give him props because when we needed him most on that last drive he went 4 for 4 passing, ran 3 times for 18 yards and the go-ahead TD. He stepped up and carried that offense.

Seems so weird that they wouldn’t correct that early in his college career. Especially as a freshman.

First game wasn't good, but we've all seen what he can do. Shore up the blocking, give him some options.

I think I said it last night but Brown looked like a guy trying to prove all the internet warriors wrong last night about his throwing. He has been a couple read and go guy. Be that guy. A lot of what. Saw from
Him last night was fixable. Is he going to be a top 10 qb in the country? No, but he can get the job done. He just needs to play his game.

Whenever I've seen Golesh asked about Brown's throwing motion he just says "it has always worked for him." Whenever it's been mentioned as a concern during this offseason, it always gets responses like "He's only the 12th player to have 3,000 passing and 1,000 rushing in a season" or people say "dude was probably the best QB in football last year and you're crying about his delivery."
I'm not seeing alot of those people today on the boards. I'm telling you, his sidearm delivery has been a problem for tipped or batted down balls and that was at USF. That's just 1 reason that Brown isn't popular with NFL scouts. His passing has always been an issue. According to some, he has been told by NFL scouts to work on accuracy and everything about his passing game, from long winding delivery, to sidearm motion, etc. If you watch last night, he forced throws all night and it felt alot like Nick Marshall in 2014 trying to prove he could be a pocket passer rather than being who he truly is. Brown and this offense didn't look like the USF offense from last year. I really think he is trying to prove to scouts he can be a pocket passer and if so, we are fricked.

I thought he was slow in pulling it down and run. Stared down receivers at times. Missed Wide Open RBs coming out of the backfield which if he would have thrown it to him it would have been good gains, however, he threw a harder to make pass in traffic and some were not caught.
