Mike Griffin just said if Sark gets fired, he thinks Muschamp will be his replacement
Posted by Pat Dye 60 minutes on 8/4/26 at 3:00 pm
First off, who the frick is this Mike Griffin cat? He was just a guest on Finebaum's show. Does he only cover Georgia or does he cover the SEC? He talked alot about Muschamp and what exactly his role was at Georgia. Then he said the Texas program under Sark just hasn't been tough enough and it needed Muschamp to come in and toughen them up. Then he mentioned how Muschamp was "head coach in waiting" several years ago at Texas when he coached under Mack Brown but took the Florida job before Mack Brown left.
Lots of talk that it's SEC Title and deep playoff run or bust for Sark at Texas. He has a loaded and expensive roster, he has the staff he wants now and they're expensive. If Texas doesn't win atleast 10 games this year, I could see Sark getting the axe but it would be hilarious if they replaced him with fricking Will Muschamp as fulltime HC. I just don't see how that makes sense.

After Hugh was fired last year, one of our writers said that Hugh played a round of golf in Waco on friday morning and then we played Baylor that night. If true, that's pretty wild. I know we beat them comfortably but still, that's not sending the right message to your players and staff. Not shocking when some star players reportedly loafed in practices. We saw the loafing on saturdays too.

Cam Newton was on the ballot this year in his first year of eligibility but got snubbed. Instead, Mark Ingram and Garrison Hearst were elected in. Both guys are deserving of the HoF. I'm biased but I think Cam should've been a first ballot HoF'er. He will get in next year I believe.

What's your problem with that title being... a title?
Because it wasn't my school that won it. I guarantee you that everyone who claims it's not a real Natty are fans of other schools, too. If my school (Auburn) had finished 13-0 with an all-SEC schedule, won the SEC championship game convincingly, made the 4-team playoffs, won both of those playoff games and hoisted that National Championship trophy, then you best believe I would be counting it as a real Natty and talking shite to anyone who doubts it.
That's why I find it so crazy that alot of our fans will absolutely stand behind our claim of 9 Natty's but in the same breath they'll say Bama's 2020 Natty doesn't count. Hell, I know Auburn fans who say that Bama's 2011 and 2017 Natty's also don't count because they didn't even win the SEC West those 2 years.
Like I said, if you take the name "Alabama" off of the 2020 national championship trophy and put your favorite school's name on it, you all would absolutely claim that Natty. We all would if it was our school. That's part of being a fan.

Auburn's worst loss was 2023, at home, to New Mexico State and Diego Pavia. We lost 31-10.
The bible thumper and hooker humper, better known as Hugh Freeze, lost 3 years in a row to Diego Pavia. In 2022, while at Liberty, Freeze lost at home to NMSU and Pavia. Liberty was a huge favorite. The next season, 2023 Freeze loses to NMSU while at Auburn. It too was a home game and Pavia was their QB. Then in 2024, Vanderbilt came to Jordan Hare with Pavia at QB and beat Freeze for the 3rd year in a row.
All 3 games, Freeze's team was favored quiet heavily and he lost all 3, with the first 2 being absolute beatdowns.

1999 was the Michael Vick team that was so good. They lost to Florida State in the Natty that year. That Florida State team was absolutely loaded and Va. Tech gave them a decent game for awhile. FSU had Chris Weinke's old arse at QB and he won the Heisman. Peter Warrick was on that team also. Bobby Bowden had a ton of great players in his FSU tenure and should've won more than 2 Natty's, imo.
From 1987 until 2000 (14 years) Florida State finished ranked inside the AP Top 5 every year. That record will probably never be broken. During that streak, FSU was 152-19. Like I said, Bowden should've had more Natty's but he would always trip up against Miami or Florida every year it seemed.

This is Lane Kiffin's time to become the new GOAT
Kiffin won't be at LSU in 5 years and it's because he is STILL the same fricking headcase he's always been. He is the worst kind of coach to have because he can't handle any pressure at all but he also can't handle success. I'm not talking about 10 or 11 win success. He hasn't even gotten to an SEC championship game and he's on his 3rd SEC school. He was at the absolute power PAC-12 program, USC, and totally fricked it all up as soon as the media picked them preseason #1. The guy IS A HEADCASE!!!!!!!
I've said this before; whenever he has expectations from fans, he fails. Raiders, Tennessee and USC. All have crazy fans and the dude got way too into his own head and couldn't even get anything really going, much less sustained anything. He then has success at FAU, which also included a 5-7 season right in between 2 good seasons. He then takes the Ole Miss job with a fanbase who, rightly so, were VERY happy with a coach to just bring consistent winning seasons. But even with going 55-19 there, he HAD to see his name leading on Sportscenter and had to always frick with Ole Miss fans and their BOT by flirting with other other jobs. Is he going to Miami, is he going to Auburn, is he taking an NFL job or the Florida job. That seemed to be his schtick like every year he was at Ole Miss. He LOVES that shite because he IS A HEADCASE!!!!
Fast forward to LSU now and you all are crazy asf as a fanbase and wear that crown with pride. You now have a coach who couldn't beat Bama but seemed to ALWAYS lead that game and he never closed it out. So he obviously had the horses to be in that game but blew leads repeatedly. Bama and especially Saban were in Lane's head but it was Lane that put them there. It's just who he is. He hasn't EVER won shite as a HC in a P-4 conference. He hasn't even been to a conf. title game as a P-4 HC.
Just look at the pressure YOU LSU fans already put on him everyday on this board. SEC Media Days had a damn Kiffin countdown clock on the screen for when he would speak thursday. He has NEVER had pressure like he will have in Baton Rouge. In 5 years he will be gone and his personal trophy case will STILL look like Texas A&M's trophy case; EMPTY!!! Dude will end up having a heart attack from the pressure or get fired because of LSU's crazy obsession thinking they should win a Natty every 5 years and he has ZERO, or he will become a drunk again and be driving home texting on his phone and hit a bicyclist or jogger and kill them and be fricked when he fails the toxicology report. That just seems like how this whole Kiffin saga is gonna end.
This flameout is going to be EPIC!!!!! Like Lane Kiffin so arrogantly said before playing Bama and getting his arse handed to him "Get your popcorn ready!!!"

I think Sumrall is going to do really well at Florida. Probably not Spurrier or Meyer level of winning but he's recruiting really good and he will have them in playoff contention most years, imo.
I would've been happy if Auburn had hired Sumrall because he's a good coach and is from our state but he has always come off as a meat head to me. Similar vibes to Ed Orgeron.

I lean more towards it being the Jimmie's and Joe's that get it done moreso than the coaching. There are years like last season when we had good talent but a terrible playcaller in Freeze. Derrick Nix is a guy who had never really called plays entirely and we saw how the offense immediately picked up when we got Freeze out the door and DJ turned playcalling over to Nix fulltime. Yeah, we still lost to Vandy and Bama but the offense was moving the ball.
Just watching 4 days of SEC Media Days, I think nearly all 16 SEC coaches at one time or another during questioning said that it really comes down to the players deciding most games in this league because they said even the bad teams have good coaches on their staffs. Chizik and Saban mentioned the same thing this week.
I'm really anxious to see how our defense holds up over a full season because Golesh ran the 2nd fastest offense in the country last year. We will score fast but there's gonna be 3 and outs that don't burn much clock and our defense will be back on the field. It will be interesting to see how Golesh and Durkin work together navigating that. Chizik mentioned yesterday that Josh Heupel, Sarkisian and Jeff Lebby all hired new DC's for this season. He said all 3 of those guys run fast offenses that were taxing on their defenses. I trust Golesh as much as any coach we've had though. He really seems to get it and is a smart cat.

I worry about our O-Line, WR's and cornerbacks. When I've heard Golesh mention an area that concerns him, he has said our O-Line every time. During spring practices Golesh said something to the effect that the one main thing on our football team that he prays for every night is our O-Line. We have G-5 guys with experience, younger guys with little to no experience or P-4 guys with injury history. Cole Cubelic recently said that he seriously thinks that Tai Buster starts against Baylor. That's worrisome to me if he is a starter on our O-Line.
We could finish anywhere from 5-7 (if we have injuries) to 8-4 and it wouldn't surprise me. I will say this, we better beat Baylor because on paper they look worse than last year and we went to their place and won by 2 TD's with freaking Hugh Freeze and Jackson Arnold. If we lose a close one to Baylor, there will be alot of calls for John Cohen's head. A close loss in Atlanta would've probably meant a win in Jordan Hare. That's how most fans will view it.

Auburn has 12 undefeated seasons and 7 perfect seasons.

Checking my notes here; moving the Auburn vs Baylor game from Jordan Hare Stadium to Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta is #147 on the list of "Shite that John Cohen has fricked up" since being hired as the AD at Auburn. The quicker his dumb arse gets tossed into the sun, the better. I would happily take Jay Jacobs back as our AD. Atleast with Jay, we never had to speculate if he loved Auburn and if he was Auburn to his core.
re: SEC schools with the most 1,000-yard rushers...
Posted by Pat Dye 60 minutes on 7/16/26 at 3:53 pm to RollTide1987
We (Auburn) used to churn out 1,000 yard rushers every season until the last few years. I believe Jarquez Hunter rushing for 1,200 yards is the best we've had during this 5 year losing drought.
We have always been the complete opposite when it comes to 3,000 yard passers and 1,000 yard receivers. Only Dameyune Craig in 1997 and Jarrett Stidham in 2017 have thrown for more than 3,000 yds in a season for us.
We've only had 2 guys go over 1,000 yards receiving in a season. Terry Beasley in 1970 and Ronney Daniels in 1999. Out of all the Power 4 programs, Auburn currently has the longest active streak without a 1,000 yard receiver. When we hired Hugh Freeze, he thought the media reporter was joking when they told him Auburn has only had two players go over 1,000 yds receiving. He said "I've had a 1k yard receiver every year I've been a HC and some years I've had 2 guys go over 1k receiving yards."
If Alex Golesh can't get anything going on offense during his time as Auburn HC, then I'll truly think our football program will just be a bottom feeder during this new era of college football. Something HAS to give!!!
