Or you supplement the high upside player with a proven vet and get the best of both worlds..

Jared knows!

He went through the same thing. He and Brown were downright bad their first couple years.

I will take Jared’s opinion over most.

Aden versus Baylor is the reminder he has it in him.
First game of the season in front of a small crowd in a tiny gym. When the book was out on how to guard him, he played in front of big crowds and in big gyms he wasn't anything more than barely good enough.

This is pro ball now. Players wanted NIL and they got it.. you either produce or get replaced.

I want Aden to stay. People have been too quick to judge a freshmen. Players like Jabari and Cooper who were able to make the jump very quickly are the exception, not the rule.

You just don't have the luxury of that kind of time in the NIL/portal world. Aden looked completely in over his head physically and mentally most of the year. He couldn't get to the basket, his shot was sporadic at best, he was tentative and an average ball handler. I don't see that dramatically improving in one off-season and our need at PG is too important to wait and spend a pile more of NIL money to keep him here.

I will love to be proven wrong, but I've seen nothing to change my mind so far.

I will keep saying it until it’s not true anymore…

No one hates Auburn players as much as Auburn fans.

No one hates him. He just wasn't good and many of us don't see the physical tools needed for him to succeed/develop in the SEC.

This is a good description when you look at his season stats:

35 games played
Games with 0% fg - 7
Games with 1% - 20% - 6
Games with 21% - 30% - 3
Games with 31% - 40% - 8
Games with 40% & above - 11 (6 of these were actually 50% or better)

Not as bad as I actually thought but I know numbers don't tell the whole picture. 7 games with a goose egg is bad though. Either way, I hope he stays.

I have dogged Aden as much as any frustrated AU BB fan, but he was named to the All-SEC freshman team, one of the best assist to TO ratios, 5th best scorer and tops in 3 pts made with 50. So let’s give the kid a break and let him get seasoned for another off season and come back stronger and make a difference next season.

How many other guards we're eligible? And he didn't turn the ball over, but he didn't get many assist and couldn't run the offense.

He had 0 pts and 0 assist against Yale.. If he can't contribute against them, then how in he world is he going to be able to produce in the SEC?

Not sure how many were eligible but 6 guards and 2 Forwards were picked for the All-Freshman team.

Aden was not nearly as good as we expected but was a decent role player. Played better defense than expected I’ll give him that. I thought he’d be hunted.

Jt33 I think the key with Aden is going to be his shooting. He does some other things well and is somewhat savvy but his calling card will be his shooting. That was the scouting report on him and why he was in high demand. Shot it well at every level of school ball and high level AAU circuits. If it doesn’t come back he will never be much more than a role player in high major ball.. if it does he could be a game changer. Somebody I trust close to the program prior to season said “he’s the best high school shooter I have ever seen.” Did not translate after he hit his funk but shooters shoot. He will get his chance to break out somewhere and I hope it’s at Auburn because shooters generally find their way out.

Worst part is the fair weather fans have the loudest mouths when talking shite about our own players. Sucks that the players think we give up on them because of a few Stidhams out there

That seems like your painting with a broad brush considering we have some data against SEC teams: Ole Miss (43%), Ole Miss (40%), Georgia (50%), Tennessee (40%), Missouri (60%), Georgia (40%), South Carolina (50%). I'd call those games producing. Does he need to get better and more consistent, yes.

Yep he’s lost confidence in his shot and it affected everything else. He has good form and a quick release. He’ll get it at some point and it’ll open up so much. Ceiling is still very high.

It’s almost like he was a true freshman playing in one of the deepest conferences out there.

He had on of his best games against Baylor, a team known for good defending guards. In my eyes it’s simple, Aden lost confidence and was never going to regain it during the year. It’s going to take months of seeing the ball going through the hoop again.

Him being on of the best shooters out of high school wasn’t a fluke. We saw flashes of it this year. It’s just a question of if he can get back to his old self. Definitely not a forgone conclusion, but absolutely worth the roster spot if he’s willing to stick it out… and by stick it out, I mean him understanding that another PG will be joining the team for next year.

If we add JP I could see Aden maybe staying since he’s a one year guy. If it’s Rice I could see him moving on.

You're showing % which is fine, but leaving out the totals which completely misrepresents his production.

If he's willing to be Chris Moore/Lior and the the 3rd PG then sure I would love to have him. I don't see that happening though.

No he wasn't. As a freshman Harper had a 17.5 PER and .538 true shooting %, 34% from 3. As a soph he was 18.3 PER and 56% TS, 35% from 3. He was definitely better as a soph and even better as a junior, but this idea he wasn't a dang good player as a freshman is BS.

That's not even on the same planet as Aden's just under 11 PER. Now should Aden get kicked to the curb, not really IMO. But we need to get a vet transfer point guard that has great skills, and if Aden isn't okay with that competition I'd let him go then though.

Now Bryce Brown is a good comparison, he wasn't very good as a freshman.
