Terrible loss for a very good basketball team. Just so happened in the first round of the tournament. Nothing more than that. Just a series of events that went the other way in the game. They play that game 100 times Yale doesn’t win 5 of the 100 but on thst day everything went their way.

I’m extremely proud of this team. I absolutely love Dylan Cardwell. He is everything that college sports is supposed to be about. CMo is an absolute dog and gives maximum effort anytime he is on the court and the other players love him. KD is psycho but he is our psycho. JayWill is a very good player but will always be thought of as the if guy… if he would have played more motivated on the offensive end, if he would have been the give me damn ball guy, overlooked will be Jaylin’s defense. He’s not a great defender but he’s a very good chase down/recover defender. Broome what more can be said comes from an HBCU and becomes an all American. Best big man in the conference and although whiny in games when it’s on the line he wants the ball and worked his arse off for Auburn. And lastly Lior will be a winner in life wherever that takes him. The coaches, players, students love this kid and not because he’s the token white kid. Lior is fine SEC basketball player and will be a solid overseas player.

Congrats coaches and players on another championship team. This is the perfect example of if you love Auburn that Auburn love you back. It’s not some JABA bullshite

There is hard criticism to be had. We had below average guard play all year. Getting a guy kicked within minutes of THE tournament was bad. KD getting the ball stolen then immediately fouling was bad. Sending them to the line so early was bad. We were out coached. I love Bruce, but he did not have his squad focused for that moment. Bruce will adjust, he is great at it. I'd like to see more accountability for the sloppy mistakes. Great teams do not make them, especially in March.

Morehead St isn’t an HBCU. You’re thinking of Morehouse college.

But yeah. Broome is a hard arse worker and one of my favorite Auburn players ever.

Agree with your comments. This team had enough talent but they weren’t the most talented bb team. They had to stay focused and play disciplined ball to achieve their highest potential to win a natty. It’s one thing to allow players to play with emotion but too many times they were undisciplined. CBM was always in altercations resulting in technical calls; Broome was always whining at refs or talking trash to opposing players; KD often played out of control. Jwill seemed to have regressed after injury. It’s really hard to make a deep run in the tourney but esp without dominant players and shooters. Lastly, we haven’t had a great point guard since Jared Harper or shooting guard since Bryce Brown. Bruce is great but hs recruiting seems subpar

If great is the qualifier you may be right. But Doughty and WGreen were both all SEC. Powell and Cooper were both awesome we just had poor luck with them. Tre is solid but I'm ready to agree with others that he is probably just a backup unless he further develops. Aden was not ready as a freshman but I'm not writing him off. Denver is a good player but we will see next year if he can be a featured player. Chance Westry who tf knows? Mccormick was a nice find as a backup but wasn't as good when he was a starter.

Hopefully Pettiford can be a great and Denver can become a better rim finisher and we improve on KD.

Well it's the offseason and I finally decided to break down and provide some real numbers on FG% and 3PT% with all the "we haven't had good shooting out of our guards since Jared and Bryce". Everyone can decide but some may be surprised...

Bryce Brown
2016 - 34/37
2017 - 36/40
2018 - 40/38
2019 - 44/38
AVG - 40/39

Jared Harper
2017 - 39/34
2018 - 36/36
2019 - 40/37
AVG - 38/36

Samir Doughty
2019 - 46/43
2020 - 41/34
AVG - 43/37

J'Von McCormick
2019 - 53/50
2020 - 38/31
AVG - 42/33

Jamal Johnson
2020 - 35/39
2021 - 36/36
AVG - 36/37

Shariffe Cooper
2021 - 39-23

Justin Powell
2021 - 43/44

KD Johnson
2021 - 39/29
2022 - 38/33
2023 - 38/27
AVG - 38/30

Wendell Green
2022 - 36/32
2023 - 36/30
AVG - 36/30

Zep Jasper
2022 - 35/37
2023 - 33/28
AVG - 34/33

Tre Donaldson
2023 - 38/41
2024 - 47/41
AVG - 45/41

Aden Holloway
2023 - 32/30

Denver Jones
2023 - 44/42

Yes, I know it's not everybody and minutes played matters, etc. but at least it gives you a snapshot of our 1 & 2 guys for the past several seasons.

Observations
1. Jared's average is good but I think some remember him as a guy who shot 45% his entire career.
2. Most folks don't give Samir & J'Von enough credit.
3. I hate Justin Powell and his dad couldn't get their crap together.
4. I wish Zep would have been more aggressive.
5. Tre is a good shooter.
6. I want Denver to be featured more.
7. I'll always be sad about Trey Alexander, Scoot Henderson & Jalen Green

Edit: I should have known 94 would beat me to the punch while I was compiling all this

Is why we were never a great team. We were simply a very good team with subpar point guard play. Now should we have lost to freaking Yale? Hell no.

But it's nearly impossible to make deep tournament runs with poor point guard play. And we had one average one in Tre and a flat out bad one in Aden. If Aden was even half of what we expected him to be we are an elite eight+ type team.

It's when they score points that matters also. Jared was straight cold as ice in big games. Wendel would disappear. Just an observation.

I think Wen was hurt by not having shooting around him. I did watch him close out Iowa in the 8-9 game last year with big buckets down the stretch.

Jared was definitely cold his final season with us but I watched him struggle before that for two years

To the surprise of no one, none of the Yale-AU officials are advancing to the sweet 16.

It’s like when a 3rd string QB plays us in football- all world. The next week? Total bust. Same but different here. Makes me crazy.

The other bummer is the CBMs dad flew 3,000 from the Dominican to watch him play 2 minutes.

Just to really bummer ways to end this years football and basketball seasons. Nothing more to say.

It’s still great to be an AU Tiger—-but damn am I bummed.

That is why u put ur foot on their throat and not let up.

We started, then JWill got hurt and CBM got kicked out and never got that intensity back.

If the NIL is right- he could move from a 2nd rounder to a high first or lottery with a massive year next season.
