Bama wasn’t great either but we were abysmal.
We win that game with just average effort. We played our worst basketball in over a year, right after the best game all year. Go figure.

Here are some of my takeaways:
1. Samir played terribly. Surely he understands that his overall play is a crucial factor in how the team performs. Similar to how Jared's play greatly affected the team last year. He can't be lazy in any department, and last night he was quite lazy and out of the game. If this occurs, I wouldn't mind giving Turbo some minutes and having Samir ride the bench (if J/von is tired too) to send a message.
2. I wish our guys were better at finishing near the basket. Teams have figured out that they're better off fouling us and forcing FT's than letting us finish the easy baskets (dunks, layups, etc). However, I wish our guys were more authoritative about finishing those buckets, but maybe it's harder than it looks. It looks like they're are unaware of defenders intentions to foul them. This was evident when Cambridge didn't finish a dunk last night and missed two FT's instead. Throw that dunk down damnit! Against Vandy or UGA, Samir got chased down from behind to get a breakaway layup blocked.
3. I wish we would figure out how to be more creative inside. Too often, it seems like it's only one guy who tries to get a basket inside (which often leads to low-percentage floaters or a turnover). I would rather look for that extra pass to Anfernee or Austin to finish the basket. If Samir, Isaac, or J'von can draw an extra player, then it could open up our bigs for high percentage looks under the basket or alley-oops. This is how Austin and Anfernee can play bigger roles in the offense. It's a shame how few opportunities Austin had last night.
4. We need to run plays in order to get JJ open. He's the only good 3-point shooter on the team. He was 3-5 last night and it's a shame he didn't get more looks. Perhaps Bama limited him. As far as 3-point shots go outside of JJ, they either go it or aren't even close. It's disheartening to see shot after shot clank off the front of the rim. We settled for bad 3's way too often last night.

We have veterans that are really role players and true freshmen.
Jang nailed it. Our "starters" are not stars. Purifoy is an 8ppg role player. Wiley should rotate offense and defense with a more versatile big (like reese). Maclemore has no offensive bone in his body. Samir isn't quite athletic enough to take his game to another level. Need more scoring from the PG and guards.
I can't imagine this being were Bruce wanted to be from a roster standpoint but we just have to survive this year and add scorers like Cooper and Brown (hopefully)

I actually think Mac has a better back to basket game than Wiley as well. He's underrated offensively although he is definitely limited.

MAC has never been comfortable playing the post w/ his back to the basket. He just doesnt have that kind of offense in him. He's best at D(blocking shots) and he just found he can hit the 3 every now and then since last year.
I agree, he SHOULD have a better back to the basket game bc of his quickness, but remember he is only 6' 7", and he never looked comfortable shooting in there.

Agree with all that you're saying, but he does have better back to the basket game than Wiley. Neither of them have a counter, Wiley has a decent hook over the left shoulder but that's it and Anfernee has better touch around the basket.

A telling stat is that we shot 11-25 on dunks and layups.
How many times did we get a shot inside but it either was contested or we were too aggressive and fast trying to put it in? I can remember one time where Purifoy I think got the rebound 3 times and missed every layup or put back bc of the inside pressure he was getting.
And Alabama was getting easy dribble drive layups bc our guards overguarded and we had slow weak help defense when Alabama got around them.

Florida will be doing a blackout Saturday.
Will have to deal with another hostile crowd.

I like how we match up with them. As others have noted, quick point guards are our worst nightmare. The SEC only has a few.

The nation’s No. 4 team in 2-point field goal percentage is 8-20 on layups and dunks tonight. Whew.
This is per Justin Ferguson. We don't have a problem w/ 2 pt FGs overall, but we certainly did last night. We don't need to make an issue out of this unless it continues.

I knew we were fricked when Purifoy missed 3 layouts on one possession, then Cambridge a dunk and two free throws.

And don't forget Turbo's missed shot, 2 missed FTs, 1 TO, and 2 fouls in 2 minutes.

It's frustrating to me how easily we get dunks and layups disrupted, only to end up at the FT line.
I haven't played much basketball, but is it really that hard to get a dunk to go down when you know a player is coming from behind to block or foul you? I feel like Cambridge has the strength and athleticism to finish that dunk. Overall, I wish we'd finish these high percentage shots more.

The whole coaching staff was yelling at Wiley on one foul he didn't power thru, he's the one that frustrates me most because he is built like a dang titan

Felt like the speed and pace of play disrupted us. That is usually the effect we have on our opponents. We had very little composure for most of the game.

Alabama took our blueprint from last year and beat us with it

I don't care if he breaks a guy's fingers or arm, hammer the ball through the rim. He has the strength to do it, he just needs to composure and ferocity.
