I thought it was interesting what Freeze said in his press conference today. He talked about not knowing how to evaluate the quarterbacks based on how much they practiced, and then he went into a story about how Malik Willis just came alive in games. I think the insinuation there might be that Robby is fairly pedestrian in practice because they’re working on so much mental rote work but he may be a guy who comes alive when they tee it up. I hope that is indeed the case because Holden is a G5 type QB and TJ isn’t the answer for the RPO game..

Sounds like Bucky isn't too happy with his QB's and WR's. One thing that I have noticed about him is he seems to be very forthright. Just tells it like it is. Especially his comment about the Edge. I wonder how many times he has asked himself: How in the hell did this place get so depleted in talent?

Is this the one where the reporter asked him what would improve the rush and Freeze said......."Recruiting".

Son beetch that one left a mark.

You may want to review what he said again. He wasn't happy with any of them and thought they would be further along and the QBs are holding up inserting more of the offense. Also they have issues with the RPO.

I think you are projecting. Robby isn't also in the RPO game and take a look at the offers of Holden (Tennessee, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Arkansas, LSU, Florida State, Michigan and Michigan State) so yeah I guess these are G5.

We have a problem at QB & WR right now. Listen to what he said in the press conference or go and read an article or two on what he said. I don't know if the starting QB is on campus right now. And if he is the light better come on or we will have a huge problem this fall...

Not going to get in a pissing match with you about your interpretation of what Freeze said, but I don’t think it was by accident that he brought up Malik Willis at length today. The only guy on our roster that even vaguely resembles his game is Robby Ashford.

I don’t care what offers Holden Geriner got coming out of high school. The fact is that he’s not a D1, big-time SEC quarterback in my opinion. Or if he develops into one, then he will make a massive leap from where he is today. I could be wrong, but I don’t see it.

ETA - I agree with you about the starting QB probably not being on campus just yet. Especially if he can’t bring Ashford around.

I agree 88. He said our QB has three steps, identify what he is seeing, make a read off of it (these first two steps we should be able to do with 85-90% accuracy) and three execute.

He then was asked about Robby and spoke about Malick, but I think his point was, Malik was doing the first two steps with high accuracy which made the execution a success.

And he said with our QBs they seem very confused with step one and two so the coaches will break it down some to make it easier, and yes it is holding up inserting much of the offense.

Ill give an example I saw with Mac Jones, I cant remember if it was the playoff or nat champ game. He breaks the huddle walks up to the line and the linebackers are coming, they are chomping. He looks at them and looks down the line at DeVonta who looks at him, looks at the linebackers, back at Mac and gets in his stance. I have no idea what play was called in the huddle, but when the ball is snapped the linebackers blitz and here comes DeVonta in a crossing pattern right to that wide open hole in the middle of the field, pitch and catch and DeVonta took it to the house. Thats doing step one and two perfectly and the execution becomes an afterthought.

And yes it sounds like the malfunction of our QBs is affecting the evaluation of the receivers as well.

I’m literally always a fan of that but has Freeze ever done that? One critique of mine of Freeze at Ole Miss was always that he didn’t seem to have much of a chance on 3rd & 2 in a tight game against a good defense

With Freeze wanting a big RB in this class as opposed to only scat backs at Old Mrs, maybe he has adjusted.

Yes. He even made the comment that they don't have a Derrick Hall out there or something to that effect.

Look for us to try to get an Edge in the May portal window, but the good ones are not likely to be in the portal. We tried to get Trace Ford and Bothroyd in the first window but both picked Oklahoma.

For anyone interested here's an almost 13 min vid of Cam and Holden throwing at pro day today https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTPb5iIBnT4

Not reading too much into it or anything, but its the most we've seen Holden throw since HS. Not sure where all this talk about his arm strength has been coming from. That wasn't an issue with any of these throws.

He has plenty of arm talent. All reports are that he is way behind knowing the O.

I watched the first 5 minutes or so, and Holden was more accurate than Cam. I don’t know why Zac Blackerby and Charlie 5 and other reporters have been dissing him so much. I think it’s because he’s with the threes all the time. He may be not reading the defense and coverages up to par, and his decision making may be poor, but his accuracy looks pretty good against air at least.

I think it’s very telling that guys had Holden throwing to them. That’s not a bad sign

I don’t know anything about him so I don’t want to make too much of this. I’m always skeptical of the insider. We know that guys watch practice, especially former players and folks like Blackerby, Charlie5, and the rest of the media get info from those guys but it’s limited info this early

Boy that DL will be stout.

And we will also have Darron Reed in the fall and the AA JC fella Quientrail Travis.

Any news on Z Walker, been banged up most of his career I hope he shows out this fall.

It was a silly statement when it was made last year and it was silly recently. He may be having struggles so far, but this isn’t the reason for it.

First pro day? It’s usually guys off the street throwing to receivers, or former players.
