What is funny is people are so sure that Hugh will go get a transfer. He could. But is it likely? No.

You think? I'd imagine Hugh is doing everything in his power to get a QB in the portal. May not happen but I'd put the odds over 50%.

He may. It seems more likely now that MJ Morris speculation is out there.

Correct. He looks real slow on highlight reels. He scored a TD on a bootleg from about 3 yards out and the announcers were making fun of it as if he were a 350 pound lineman.

I have to agree. Good QBs transferring from a lower school to a better school already happened. This next portal window will be players who missed out on the depth chart in spring practice. You are not getting a starter there.

Your "current starter" is a guy who was 3rd/4th string at his previous school and was 3rd string here last season behind two middling QB's before external circumstances pushed him onto the field.

Those aren't even exaggerations. And notice how I placed "current starter" in quotations: I did so deliberately, because Ashford hasn't technically even won an actual QB battle yet. He lost to Finley last year and just concluded Spring without being named the starting QB.

So in reality, we don't even have a starter.

So when you state that some other team's backup "isn't a starter", I don't think you are fully comprehending what the QB situation at Auburn actually is.

Correct. It's entirely believable that a possible qb transfer at this point would AT THE VERY LEAST compete for the starting job with who we got on roster

Nobody disagrees with that but m4.
Being brought in to compete isn’t bold enough. He is brought in to start!

Yes, every transfer is theoretically brought in "to compete".

Freeze is trying to get someone who he thinks can start. That is option A, B, and probably even C.

The other factor you need to understand is that QB's don't transfer to go ride the bench at their next school unless they just don't have many options or are particular cases (like a really young kid who has ~4 years eligibility remaining).

Anyway, the main takeaway here is that they are looking for someone who they think can actually run their offense. I love the people who seem to think that a coach who knows he has 2-3 years to start producing results is just going to go "oh well" and run out a QB who can only run around, when that isn't even the offense he intends no running.

There are no mulligans or do-overs anymore. So what do you think Freeze is doing this next week in the Portal? It's not hunting for a backup at QB lol.

The transfer QB market is pretty bare right now. I’m not sure there’s a clear cut starter available at all.

The portal doesn’t open until Saturday so all it contains now are leftovers from the December portal and some grad transfers. There will be some QBs enter the portal next week but not likely any surefire QB1s.

We have seen transfers come in, and we knew they were probably going to take over. Like Stidham.

I don’t think we are getting Stidham. MJ is probably a mixture of TJ and Ashford.

Caveat- I have no clue who is or will enter the portal

His 1.8 yards per carry says he probably has the wheels of TJ.

Or, per your conversation, he had a shite supporting cast

He probably had better talent than Ashford and Bo.

And neither had anywhere close to 49 rushes for 88 yards.
