Sorry if another thread but what are your thoughts on the rumor of TX & OU joining the SEC? Not sure if I am a fan or not. Would be tougher to get to the playoffs but again would raise money for our team. Many details to work out if true but also there will be a few teams that will block. Again it might be TX & OU flexing to get something that they want within that league.

Don’t want it. Texas will come in and make it all about them and ruin shite.

I don’t like it. SEC is already tough enough for a program like Auburn, and this would just add to that. I also don’t like change

Super conferences are the future - especially as the NCAA becomes less relevant due to NOI issues. Might as well embrace it now before we get passed up.

Absolutely love it. More than likely will put us playing an original SEC10 schedule with more UF and UT. Get some awesome road trips out west. Hopefully it will be two conferences under one name with us playing within our old footprint.

I can go for it.
It SHOULD put us and Alabama in the East, and add 1 more conference game.
Then make Alabama play GA every year and that makes it a little more even. ALthough then we probably have to play FL every year it is worth it but it is offset by us getting to play Vandy every year too.

I've become much more of a traditionalist conservative curmudgeon in my old age, so I'm predisposed to hate it. However, since the sport of CFB is basically nothing like it was when I was at AU, my opinion doesn't really mean much.
If it's gonna happen, I will try to embrace the potentially positive aspects - hopefully realignment of the divisions. Saw this proposed over on tRant:
ETA: In fact, if they really want to make this change, they should set up the schedule to where the interdivisional games are all played in September. That way once you get into the meat of your schedule you are playing only divisional opponents, and any potential SECCG/CFP rematches will be several weeks removed.
Since traditional conference affiliation has essentially become meaningless, it would actually be ideal if the Big12 went away and the remaining P5 leagues all expanded to 16 teams, and the CGs would essentially be the first round of the playoffs. Of course that would shut out approximately 51% of the current FBS teams from competing for an NC, but it's time they created their own classification anyway (or maybe expand into FCS).

SEC WEST
Arkansas
LSU
Mississippi State
Mizzou
Oklahoma
Ole Miss
Texas
TAMU
SEC EAST
Alabama
AU
Florida
UGa
Kentucky
South Carolina
Tennessee
Vandy

This is the only reason I like it. But the SEC will probably find some way to ensure Auburn still plays the toughest schedule in the conference. Lol

I’ve been saying it for a few years now and it was mentioned earlier about super conferences. Go to 20 teams. Add Texas OKie OKie st try to grab VT NC state and either WV or Maryland
9 game conf schedule. So you would play all teams in your division. The winner of each division goes into the playoffs. Round 1 is conference championships. Out of conference won’t matter if you win or lose so teams can develop younger players and/or keep out of conference rivals.
4 super conferences of 20 teams.

IF it happens, which I don't think it would get enough votes, but if it did.. I'm officially campaigning to move Auburn to the ACC. From a competitive stand point it make zero sense for us to try to fight through Bama, UGA, Fla, LSU, Texas AM, Texas, and Oklahoma for a conference championship/playoff spot as opposed to instantly being at worst 2nd best in the conference and only having to beat Clemson for a conference championship/playoff spot.
If I was the ACC I would be calling every school to see if they want to come over. Ken, SC, both Miss schools, Mizzou, Tenn.. all of them would NEVER have a shot at winning the SEC again.

Auburn men don’t run from competition.

Its not about running lol. No one is running. I want to play for national titles and conference titles though. You want to be a middle of the road SEC team or the top team in the ACC? I know which I would choose.

How could our schedule really get any harder? Either you man up or get left behind. Luckily in college you can go recruiting and decide your own fate unlike in high school where you just get what you get coming up.
Sounds like some of the arguments I’ve been here about needing Tim Cook and so and so to do endorsements and buy our way to a championship.
I’m not even an AU grad… but I believe in work, hard work
Plus you are nothing thinking about everyone in the same division would play essentially the same schedule other then who is home and who is away. Plus it would open up opportunities for development of younger players in the out of conference games because rankings won’t matter just if you win your division on the field

quote:You don't see how adding two teams who will out recruit us, get more favoritism than us (IE get the benefit of the doubt in rankings etc), and be higher in the standings will hurt us?

In what way does it help us? People in here talking about moving to the Eastern division like its not for the exact same reason I'm proposing lol.
Middle of the SEC or top the ACC? I promise you someone from this conference will have that same thought and make the move.

I think this is likely the case, so the only question is what teams would we want and love them or hate them, those teams would be big draws.
I would prefer we dropped two teams, but that is not where we are headed.

Yuk. I thought of that too.
Now another possibility, would be to keep Alabama in the West, move us to the East.
That would make ALabama play Texas AND OKlahoma every year, which might be better than them playing in the East and adding GA and FL to their every year schedule.
Now that might be even better...

Not a fan of adding two more teams that will easily out-brand, out-spend, and out-recruit us.
