Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline gives Maryland redshirt junior DL Byron Cowart a seventh-round grade coming into the 2018 season.
quote:

Cowart transferred to Maryland in December as a former five-star recruit who has battled injuries throughout his college career. When healthy, however, he showed moments of what made him so highly regarded as a prep player. "Cowart is a nice-sized [6'4/270] defensive lineman who can stop the run or rush the passer but must do so on a consistent basis," Pauline writes. Expectations are understandably at a minimum, but keep an eye on the former LSU defender. He's capable of breaking out if he can stay on the field.
Aside from the obvious error of him playing at LSU, what type of film did this guy watch?

Wish him the best and I hope he finds success, but this draft writeup appears painfully inaccurate and just flat out wrong.

I don’t remember any serious injury. Or nagging, for that matter.

He got destroyed by our walk on TE in the spring game. He didn’t have his recruiting rating in him. A fricking fraud.

This writer didn't know where he played ball. He may have not even played at Maryland.

I don't understand. If you are questioning if Cowart went to Maryland, he did.

247 Cowart

If you weren't saying that, I apologize for the misunderstanding.

I wish Cowart the best but he had a poor work ethic.

I question our QB development under our current coaches but I do not question our development of RB and DL.

HIs lack of development was not coaching, it was attitude. Hopefully, for him, it has changed.

Multiple people who saw him at camps/all American games said he was unstoppable. There a loads of videos out there from HS where even top OL can't handle him

Seems like a kid who due to laziness or mental makeup just can't keep the light turned on long term

Hopefully he can figure it out whether in FB or just life

He was a manchild in the All-American game. I think he's just the type the doesn't handle adversity well. In HS he was able to just bull everyone around. He wasn't able to do that in college and wasn't willing to put in the extra work.

There was an article I can't seem to find where his former HS coach basically said he had a shitty attitude & would need to grow up to make it at next level. I remember thinking that HS coach was kind of a dick but turns out he was right

His recruiting class was the final one that I've followed closely due to changes in job, but I remember being told he had a possible work ethic issue. Of course him being a 5 star made me think bullshite but they were right.

I seem to remember his high school coach warning everyone of that possibility.
