So Mateer turned down 6-8 million from Miami.

Pretty sure the numbers they are throwing out are for their entire time at the school, not one year. Like the Michigan kid was 10 mil divided up over 4 years, so 2.5 mil a year. Still stupid as hell, but not quite as insane. 3 mil a year for Mateer I could see happening in the right circumstance, aka with Miami's crazy boosters.

Both seasons ended with a dud. He isn't worthy of some folkhero status.

Pavia is good. I think he would put up numbers with some talent around him.
One thing is for sure though, he is Hugh’s daddy. 3 games against Hugh as an underdog and he has three wins, 11 TD’s, and 0 INT’s.
