How can you go to 7 schools? How many years of eligibility does he get?

That’s what I don’t understand; how he gets 7 years but Pavia and Chambliss get denied?

Jlee said that's what ND signed him to play but he never played a snap for them, he played CB and QB in HS

I think the way other teams are spending so much is because they are signing deals with private equity firms. Multiple teams are doing it. Pretty sure I saw where LSUs deal with Sam Leavitt was largely paid by private equity.

If others are doing that and we aren’t no wonder we are getting our asses handed to us on the lines

I've heard this is being done, or at least talked about being done. What I don't understand is the ROI. The private equity firm can't become a partner or a shareholder and take a % of the profit and they have no mechanism to improve the player so it makes little sense to me.

I've never been a finance guy but I thought I had a solid grasp of the fundamentals. Someone pls educate this retired engineer.

Are the schools offering part of their bowl payouts as % of the profits?

Unless they're private, the schools are non profit. The only thing I can think of is they invest in a player, prop him up and then "sell" him in the next portal cycle. I'm probably way off but that's all I've got now.

Interestingly enough I think both his parents are highly educated if I’m remembering correctly. Like one parent a doctor and the other a scientist or something like that.

I think the ncaa hands years out to under the radar guys because no one is watching but with players like Pavia everyone would notice and use them as examples to get extra years.

We probably don't have enough companies lined up to pay for our players at the rate other programs in richer states do. Some companies will use the players as celebrities (even if they don't care about the schools) just for advertising. Bama is in the same boat.

They will have to make schools pool money or cap it to fix the mess that the NCAA spent years to control.

"Private equity" is a legal mechanism better known as a booster, nothing more or less.

That is incorrect. PE is funding from a private investor or investor group in exchange for an equity stake, ownership, in an entity.

Oh for Petes sake,

The equity they own is a piece of paper. Do we think Black Rock sees it as a good investment of our pension fund to pay an OT in Utah?

Just a different way to skin a cat, just like the Yellow Wood logo on our field.

Regarding paying players, Im certain, as others have mentioned, we gave some significant raises to many on our current roster to keep them out of the portal.

And we seem to be spending our money quite wisely, and not being cheap. I would like a few more linemen. But look at our OL that hit the portal. Chaplin at FSU, other than that, some still dangling, one to Toledo, another to Iowa State, what did we lose exactly?

We picked up 3 starters in the portal, thats not bad at all.

Understand your thinking, but your terminology is wrong. You could say private funding. Now, the private equity being talked about in the thread is a real thing. Utah was for sure looking at it. What the equity piece is, I have no idea.
