I agree that I never understood the star pitch.
I don't like it either. You have your best player taken out of the play a very high percentage time in the star position. Evens is too much of a stud LB to be chasing down people in coverage half the game.
This is why I wish we would move Therezie to Safety and Garrett to LB

Rashaan can easily get up to 245-250 with his frame. He will be fine in the rush end spot and won't be undersized at all

He has a unique size and skill set, his best bet is to stay within the confines of OLB. His best bet at a high draft pick is a true OLB.

it will take time to get there, and he'll have to get more comfortable with playing the LB spot (which granted, he was going to have to do anyways regardless of where he chose).
evans probably isn't an immediate impact guy b/c of their depth chart and the things mentioned above... but he's got unreal potential.

The 3-4 does carry the advantage of having at least one linebacker rushing on every play. If he wants to rush the QB then it's kind of a no-brainer choice.
We're probably going to miss out on elite pass-rushing LBs in the future, too, as long as we stick with the 4-2-5.

Still pretty butthurt about Evans, can't lie, but the Braden Smith and Andrew Williams additions help. The Star position pitch probably did us in...

I consider myself an objective fan. I am not doom and gloom nor am I a sunshine pumper. We had a very good day today. All who were committed to Auburn signed with Auburn including many absolute studs and Auburn did a great job of filling needs. Also, Auburn picked up two guys who were not committed and fiercely recruited by other schools. As for the 3 uncommitted guys we were watching today the biggest NEED for Auburn going forward was Smith.
WDE guys. Congrats to the coaches and new Tigers.

Yeah, but that was the best bet the AU coaching staff had. The 4-2-5 is the reason Evans isn't in Auburn IMO. Such is life.

So moving away from Evans. Do we have any qualifying concerns? Is everyone looking good in this class? I hate the idea of sign and place.

I know when he committed Justin Thornton had some concerns, but I have no idea where he stands now.

Thornton is supposedly good to go now

I recall hearing that now. I think that is the only one I heard mentioned before.

I think Pettway still has work to do also.

I still think Braden Smith is highest drafted player from the class even if we had gotten Evans

Yeah I mean I don't think the coaches should have gone about it differently. You have to sell him on what you want him to do, and if he's no on board with it then so be it. The 4-2-5 will cost us some pass rushing talent going forward, but that's okay.

yep I've been saying this for a while...wanted Smith the most by far

I think with Saban's obsession with LBs and trying to sign everyone he can get, it helps us to only use 2. Plus I think the 4-2-5 is better suited to handle spread and hurry up teams, which seems the way more and more teams are going.

I am perfectly content with the 4-2-5, just stating the sell wasn't very hard for UA in this situation.
