I don't know how much of that stuff I believe...
But, I am 100% on board with purging the entire staff unless our new coach wants to keep a guy or two for continuity's sake and help with the transition.

Not saying it would be my choice, and not saying that’s the case. Just wouldn’t surprise me at all and would feel very much like the Malzahn hire in 2012. Decent coach, not very polarizing, and has ties to the area.

What’s the word on rivals now? It’s been well covered that 247 guys are all in on the Steele being the leader angle

The 247 guys want Steele because he's an open book and will talk forever to those guys. Probably allow more media into practice. Gus shut all that down, that's why they hated Gus because they had to get information from players and they knew not to say much.

Kevin Steele talks to the media like twice a year. He has openly bashed them, at Auburn, about writing whatever they want despite what’s going on.

I agree. I've only a few interviews with Steele since he got to Auburn and he seemed extremely bored and would rather be anywhere in the world than talking to reporters.

I said two days ago that this Kevin Steele smoke serves three purposes: Creating a diversion; souring the fanbase's conversation on KS so that if the new coach doesn't retain him, we're not pissed; and providing a narrative in the event that occurs (Kevin was interviewed but not offered the job, so he left.) I left out the part about KS helping to hold us together (FWIW) through NSD. So far, I've seen nothing of substance that changes my opinion on that.
If you're the AD, Pres, Committee, or BOT (whoever the hell is actually running this show), you give KS a courtesy interview... After you've already agreed-in-principle with someone else.
No way we are hiring Steele.
If we do, and I'm dead wrong, it doesn't matter how it turns out, or if Kevin wins some games - the bottom line will be Auburn fired Gus and paid his buyout to promote Kevin Steele. I like Kevin, but you don't make that move. StatTiger posted a while back that Gus was our winningest football coach, when our coaching records are adjusted for ranking of competition. The program did indeed go stale, but you don't fire that to hire Steele. It doesn't matter how it turns out --- Auburn is done, on principle.
