Read where Sexton has presented Auburn with some hefty demands for Gus’s new deal.

I think we’ll have to go at least $6m with a heftier buyout...especially with Mullen getting $6m from the Gators

Your title needs some work.

This is a slippery slope being paranoid Gus could return next season.

My only fear is Leath. Dude has not inspired me with a ton of confidence so far with this bball stuff. Hoping we handle this & move on with our lives. We are gonna have to pay out the butt but that's just how things are these days. Get deal done, win Saturday & move on with our lives

FWIW the fact AU has landed like 4 commits in a week & 2 of AU's biggest commits have announced they are shutting things down makes me believe Gus has made his intentions very clear he plans on sticking around

I get so scared with shite like this. Gus is doing awesome right now but I just don't think his overall track record is deserving of a huge contract

Have you seen the market? Gundy was offered 8.4 MM. 6 MM for Gus is a steal.

With talent Gus is pretty damn good. Lock him up...and get the continuity rolling. The roster is deep and he may win a 2nd SEC title in 5 years.

We can afford it, my issue would be buyouts. He is still flukey as a coach and only Arkansas will come after him with decent money.

Florida raised the bar big time as far as salaries with Mullen

No different than what's going on with the NFL and QBs. Market dictates the contract, even if it seems obscene.

Jay Jacobs is negotiating the deal so I'm sure Gus will have a $50 million buyout.

Yep... see Jimbo Fisher’s situation at FSU right now... that’s what it looks like when a high profile P5 coach leaves to take another high profile P5 job.

IMO, pay him what he wants. Give him more money to lock his assistants down another season or two. See what he can do with what he has...also, get the bagmen on the junior class. If we could get a couple of them to stick around we might have 2 seasons of sustained success and momentum might grow. Then money would take care of itself. Where there is no vision, the people will perish or something like that.

Uhhh...he's pretty much second to Saban in wins and tenure in the conference at this point. Going to be hard to not pay anyone with that resume.

I disagree. Gus just won his second West title in five years............going head-to-head against saban. A lot of schools would go after Gus if he was on the market.

In terms of cumulative payments made, a large buyout is only a problem if the coach has a large salary as well. We should ask the coach to choose between buyout + salary increase

I wonder if Sexton & co are going to start using assistants $ pool as artificial buyout protection. The cost of buying out a coach includes his assistants not retained, our staff is probably looking anywhere from $5-7.5mil at a minimum + potential off field staff

At this point 40m/6 years would be fine IMO, especially if he wins a title Saturday.

Mullen just got 6m/per. I expect Tennessee and A&M prices will be steep, probably Arky too.
