Are you being serious right now? You're accusing me of being nitpicky about a coach who had 4 of his 5 seasons vacated, delivered his school a 2 year postseason ban, and a 4 scholarship reduction? All for what? One 10 win season?

These aren't nitpicks. He cheated to the brink of the death penalty and didn't win THAT much anyways.

Clearly, if you remove the near death penalty and act like it didn't happen, he was pretty successful for an Ole Miss coach. He was basically 08-09 Houston Nutt.

Explaining why Freeze is a logical choice is like trying to pick up a turd from the clean end.

He cheated to the point that the playing field was almost levelled and had Ole Miss, a bottom feeder program, competitive with the big three in this division in under three years on the job. In reality, his "cheating" was no different than what normally goes on in this conference - the only difference is that he did it at a school that isn't insulated from the NCAA, and thus an example had to be made.

Use some common fricking sense. At a school like Auburn, he wouldn't NEED to cheat to that level to get the players necessary to be competitive. You understand that Dan Mullen was set to pay Cam to come to MSU - because you have to pay to get a talent like that to a bottom-feeder school - but at Florida he doesn't NEED to be so heavy handed with regards to cheating, and thus have you heard a peep about anything suspicious going on at Florida? Big fricking deal, at a school like Ole Miss you have to break a few more eggs if you want to win football games - thats the reality of the situation. A school like Auburn is much better prepared to tell the NCAA to go frick themselves, kinda like we did when the entire Cam Newton thing rolled around. Not only would he not have to be so deliberate in cheating here, but any cheating that he would do would be much more difficult to pin down, because while a lot of you seem to think we're this big victim program, our network is actually very strong.

I'm fully aware that he was fricking cheating at Ole Miss. Guess what? We cheat too. The difference is that we're not fricking Ole Miss - or actually - we might become that if we keep trotting out our current HC for a few more seasons.

By the way, Dan Mullen is a perfect example of a coach with a "mediocre record" by a lot of the people here's metrics. He's now on his way to his third straight 10+ win season at Florida. In fact, I'm pretty sure that I outright saw people laughing at Florida for hiring a guy that didn't win a national championship at MSU.

He wasn't handing out $100 bills and getting some Chargers from the Dodge dealership. HE was calling hookers, on a University owned phone. Not a nod and wink to an assistant or a booster, this was the head coach, calling a hooker on a recruiting trip.

Great - now he knows not to do that again. The trick is to get someone else, a nameless face, to make those calls with a burner phone. I'm sure he's learned that lesson.

Or is your premise that because he did that once, he'll absolutely do something equally idiotic here?

The reality is that his past stupidity just means that we can get him here on a bargain deal. Kinda like how Bruce Pearl would never ever be the HC at Auburn had he not been coming off his own problems.

Like it or not, Auburn is a conservative fan base. I just have a hard time believing that Freeze will get a serious look from the powers that be.

It's also disingenuous to try to equate Pearl's NCAA troubles with Freeze's. They are not equal or even in the same realm.

You mean believing in redemption and a second chance? Amazing how its ok to sign Cam and hire Bruce when they had a checkered past

Cam & Bruce redemption =/= Freeze. If you fail to see how they aren't in the same ballpark...

Would you take Freeze over Sarkisian?

What if Sark was available for Auburn? Another alternative?

Well, we all know Freeze has a good bit of baggage. I think he is a great coach of the game. Will AU fire Gus and hire Freeze? I am about 99.8% confident we will not.

Lane currently makes $3.9M with Ole Miss and likely to get a bump. I would think to get Lane, we are looking at $6-7M for 5 years. Plus an entire turn over of entire staff. I don't think we can afford him.

I must have missed the investigation where Lane got busted with hookers. Please link the info.

Also, Lane has a better chance of getting hired by Auburn than Freeze. I stand a better chance of hitting the lotto than either of them getting hired.

Rhett Lashley, welcome home. Because, Auburn.
