Is it time to move on from Kodi. Regardless of what happens with Gus. I think we have 2 slots for WRs in this class and we won't even sign a top 50 WR unless someone flips. How is that even possible? Now that I look again looks like it would be none in the top 100.

Yes we have one athlete that could play WR committed but he would also be well outside the top 50 if in the WR group.

I've been complaining for 2 years about WR quality and lack of route running. They play hard they block decent but to win you have to have dynamic pass catchers in todays game.

What have we done with any receiver that signed here? That is how it is possible.

We've put players in the league. Slayton is actually doing really well. Yes we signed an ok class last year but you have to get talent every year.

Slayton is playing like a 1st rounder and was drafted in the 5th round. Thats not what "putting players in the league" refers to.

yall come up some of the weirdest logic.

My point is why aren't we getting players ranked at a minimum in the top 20?

Have you seen our offense the past 5 years? No top 20 receiver wants to come play here.

When Auburn is winning, under Gus' system anyway, we are throwing the ball about 20 times a game. When we throw the ball 40+ times a game, it is because we are getting shite kicked and we have guys like Bo Nix running around playing backyard football.

How we even have the talent that we do right now is a testament to the job this staff has done recruiting skill guys. OL and QB is a different story

Kodi should have never been hired in the first place. We don't go and get the best we just go and get "Auburn Men"

it’s not “we”. It’s Gus. This team, this staff, it’s all on him.

If my kid is a 4/5 star QB or WR with even a glimmer of hope of playing on Sundays, there is no way in hell I would send him to Auburn right now.

I don't feel like we have a talent gap at the WR position. I believe we have a problem with the offense in general.

To be fair, I'm going to assume Jacobs had some influence in some of those hires. Rodney Garner for one.

Kodi should have coached at ASU for a few seasons before any SEC school had any business hiring him.

Same for Cadillac...no college experience at all, yet we felt he was ready to coach SEC RB's.

It speaks to how limited Gus's network is.

I actually feel that for the most part of Gus' tenure we have recruited WR better than we should based off usage and production. How we ever even got the guys we have baffles me.

It is the development once they get here which reflects on Kodi, and more so on Gus. I think Kodi will be a good coach. I think if he were in a different Offensive system with any other HC he would be held in higher praise.

The point is that its incredibly easy to negatively recruit against us. Slayton was a high ranked recruit that we stole away from UGA. He's playing better in the NFL than he ever did in College. Its not hard for some other team to go at some WR we're also recruiting and say "Slayton should have been a 1st round pick but because he played in Auburn's offense he went in the 5th round". There is a monetary difference between going in the 1st round vs. 5th round, so saying "yeah we put Slayton in the league" is silly.

Actually, the fact that we've even been able to get even this many 4-star receivers to date to sign with us is kind of perplexing given that the deficiency in our passing offense/WR usage and development has been present the entire time Malzahn has been here.

Ever think that nobody worth a damn, wants to work on Gus' offensive staff? WR & RB coach had very little coaching experience when hired. OL coaching and recruiting has been a disaster for years. Remember when Gus forbid QBs from getting outside coaching?

I think we all know, nothing is going to get better with Gus at the top. Enjoy medocrity, getting blasted by rivals, and being on the OM and MSU level as long as Gus heads this program.

This is the reality and it works two-fold:

On one end, Malzahn is set in his ways and doesn't want to change his beliefs. He's had a lot of smoke blown up his arse about how he's an offensive genius, and why wouldn't he buy into his own hype? He rose meteorically from HS coach in Arkansas to dominating NCAA football. Because of this he doesn't want to bring in anyone who's going to challenge his "system" - hence bringing in coaches who have worked with him before, are his friends, or are inexperienced to the point that they don't have any voice anyway. He surrounds himself with people who will say what he wants to hear. Lets imagine that hypothetically we somehow brought in an NFL WR coach. That dude would laugh at what we teach our receivers and the entire nature of our "pass offense". It would be quite embarrassing for Malzahn.

On the other end, the book on Malzahn is out so those high-quality candidates already know not to come here even if they otherwise would have interest. Our problems on offense are consistent, and actual coaches can see that the common denominator is the HC. Who wants to waste their time coming here to coach under a HC who already "knows whats best" and doesn't want to change anything?

We need a new coach and they will bring in their staff. And yes Kodi should never have been hired. Good guy but not the level of coaching needed.

Agreed.

Recruiting of skill players, outside of RBs is about to be a huge factor. If you are a QB or WR with a legit chance at the professional level, you'd be crazy to pick Auburn with Gus at the helm, over another decent P5 school.
