I disagree. I don't want either one of them but I would just as or rather have Steele than Malzahn.

Auburn is not going to hire Steele.

The dude knows the SEC, knows defense, knows recruiting, spent time in Alabama as a kid and played football at UT. He has NFL experience, tons of college experience, coached under Saban, coached under Dabo, coached at LSU, and is just a well respected veteran all around. And I think he truly likes being at AU. His players seem to really like him as well (much like they did Gus).

Right, so he "knows" all those things and has coached at virtually every top program in the South at one point in time - and yet why are we the first and only school to think up this brilliant idea of naming him our HC? All of these other SEC and/or other conference schools in the South East have had coaching openings in recent years and half of them have had direct experience with Steele; how is that at almost 63 years old age its just NOW that he's supposedly booming as a top-tier SEC HC candidate?

Your logic actually discredits itself because Steele's exposure throughout his career should have actually accelerated the likelihood that some other school took the chance on him. The fact that it never happened anywhere strongly suggests that this is nothing more than JABA - brought to you by the same guys that pegged 5-19 Gene Chizik as the coach at one of the premier jobs in the country, and then replaced him with his coordinator coming off of just one season of HC experience.

quote:

I mean if he hires the right OC, what issue is there really? One thing is for sure, he can attract a better staff than Gus. I am POSITIVE Steele is more respected in the industry when it comes to attracting assistants than Gus was. Gus had this persona of running a coaching cult and no one outside of his disciples wanted to be a part of it. (See ESPN's article about this). Steele would not have that problem.

This sounds nice in theory and Steele absolutely has a considerably bigger network than Malzahn - but when have you ever seen a 63 year old boom through with a young and exciting staff (which is what we need)? I think it's much more likely that his staff would be built around a bunch of "veterans" such as himself that were hot names 5-10 years ago. Think of your Mike Bobo's of the coaching world. Do you really expect an old defensive coach to come through with an explosive and exciting offense? Does anything about Kevin Steele's personality suggest to you or anyone else that he's the type of exciting personality thats going to tear through this conference and flip the narrative and get us back in the game?

And Charles Kelly as DC. You are exactly right regarding his coaching staff. Gus holdovers and some has beens like Bobo. I heard that Steele promised that be could deliver an outstanding OC. Sorry if the rumors are true, Mike Bobo is not it.

I still would like Steele to stay as DC if the new coach wanted him. But he is not head coach material.

If Auburn hires Steel I'm done with them in football. That's the time of year for some great fishing anyway.

Y’all should go and read Josh Moons latest tweet..... very telling of how truly dumb the higher ups at Auburn are. They were seriously going to hire Steele and make us melt to the ground.

Don’t believe everything you hear.

I’m pretty skeptical of those tweets.

Steele is 60+, he’s a good d coordinator but he’s not Venebles level coordinator.

He’s never won anything as a head coach. He’s just buried programs.

We shouldn’t even be talking about Steele, period. His name shouldn’t even be being mentioned. But that’s how fricking stupid our leadership is. Either someone really wants him or someone thought it was a brilliant idea to use him as a decoy. All of which have backfired.

Can’t believe Steele is only in his early 60s. My dad is 10 years older than him and looks 15 years younger.
