He wasn’t the only one. If Gus gets fired in 2015, we’re not in this situation right now.

It looked like he intentionally was not scrambling on several plays

here is every FBS coaching hire following the 2015 season

knowing that Smart would 100% pick his alma mater over us, whom do you think we could’ve hired?

These are both delulu.

Kiffin had Ole Miss playing above Auburn in the SEC West. There was zero reason for him to make that move when he could have stayed where he was at and waited for the NFL, LSU, Bama, etc. to come calling. Which is exactly what happened. Auburn was not a big enough potential upside at that point over what he already had at Ole Miss.

Cristobal had a cake-walk scenario at Oregon (tons of money and resources, playing in the PAC10 with USC down) and literally only left for his alma mater, which itself was only desirable because they got a huge influx of NIL funds. Cristobal had ~10 wins/season on lockdown at Oregon. Why leave that for a down Auburn program in the SEC West where a 10 win season is actually a huge accomplishment at this point? The idea of Cristobal leaving Nike money at Oregon for Yellawood and Auburn is a pipedream.

That’s a lot of typing. Kiffin wasn’t coaching old piss in 2015.

Oh, so its a retrospective argument that Auburn should have hired him back when his career was in the dumpster, or coming off his rehab OC stint at Bama?

Why stop there, then? They should have hired Curt Cignetti, lol.

Given what we know now, they should have fired Malzahn earlier and taken Kiffin from Bama. You can play that game indefinitely. At the end of the day the most realistic time to pursue Kiffin came in 2023, and like I explained: it made no sense for him to move laterally from Ole Miss at that point.

Well he had more championship games under his belt at that point than who we selected. There were much better candidates that we could have hired at that point. Of course we would have missed 2017. We should have never gave in to that massive extension.

Well, I personally wanted us to fire Gus at the end of the 2015 season and hire Lincoln Riley, that good enough for a non-retrospective argument for ya?

That's a no BS wish I had then, much like I wanted us to hire Smart when we hired Gus (much like Dye).

Obviously Riley would have brought his own issues long term, but we'd have been in a much better spot short term and long term compared to right now.

We're so far removed from our days as a good program that I dont think many good coaches are gonna come here. At a certain point its bigger than a coach problem when you whiff on 3 straight coaches pretty badly

Yeah I don't even care anymore. No one good will take the job. AU is gonna be a bottom feeder in the SEC from now on. It sucks, but that's the reality.

Find something better to do on Saturdays.

We have white tent tailgates.

The people in charge have bad ideas. They hire people who aren't good enough to fix their bad ideas. The rest is downstream.

Auburn has yet to go hard in the paint in the portal, it’s baffling.

Must have been a pass out of the backfield then. He’s #29 right? Almost fumbling is almost fumbling whether it’s a carry or a reception.
