Seemed like a combination of things
- CAP is good not Tre good
- OL clearly has dropped back a level
- KState sold out on Run
- KSt LBs were Tubs style fast as shite guys who could cut off lateral run game with their speed. That Johnson guy got there and made a tackle
- WRs dropped passes so often that KST didn't care about pass Marshall actually was solid

Agreed... NM didn't look 100% running the ball.

I do think we will have a hard time running the ball against LSU, UGA and Bama. At least with UGA their secondary is as suspect as ours, so we may be able to beat them through the air if Nick and the receivers are in synch. The other two games, I am worried.

I thought he had a couple of bad reads where he handed off to Artis-Payne with the DE crashing. Nick would have been untouched around the end for 8-10 yds. I haven't rewatched the game yet, though.
Also, our receivers did not help Marshall out early. Too many drops that were catchable. If they would have made those early catches, it would have helped Nick's confidence and maybe dropped some LBs into coverage, opening up the run.

i think this had a lot to do with many miscues and not picking up yards or giving up yards on defense. you didn't see Kstate slipping like our guys. i think they just weren't use to the turf and got off balance a lot, this lead to them not being able to go quite full speed.
i recall specifically one option play were Therezie had it snuffed out and just slipped and busted his arse and they picked up a first down.

He barely ever "makes reads" he knows where the ball is going before it's snapped he takes a 3 step drop and throws it whether theres a Dlinemen in the air (3 times last night) or a man is drapped all over the wr. Yea, this has been a problem. He does not seem to be reading his keys on the option. Last night, if we had connecting on some of those early passes, they would have had to stop crashing DB's down to stop the run. He kept some reads when there were three defenders where he was running. He has done it the past two games. I don't know how Gus has not picked up on it yet.

I'm sure he has. Will be interesting to see what we do against La. Tech. You could leave NMarshall in nearly the entire game to hope he finds his swag back or you could start JJ and let him play the whole game to see how he does with the run game

We don't know which plays are reads and which are called runs. All this discussion about bad reads is pointless IMO.

I'm not very good at breaking down a game like some of you are, but I have thought the same thing all season.

I think we will see more of what we did last night. Nick throwing the ball a lot, trying to get in sync with the receivers.
I think Gus is bound and determined to make the passing game, with Nick, work. He will not drop it now

Not really. The blocking scheme for a read option is different than called runs. If you're trying to blast through a hole, you won't have the ability to block for a QB keep also.

What about throwing quick slants and to Cap more? Or is that too hard if the LBs are up close to the line?

Nick Marshall was 11-2 as a starter last year, and currently 3-0 this season. 14-2.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If we start losing because of his play, then pull him.
