Insider Notes From BM: It's Happening

Boosters know they made a mistake giving Malzahn guaranteed money, and they are willing to write another check to fix the mistake.
Malzhan unlike Tubberville does not have powerfull support in his corner from big time boosters.
He did have a few boosters in his corner but that pretty much ended last season when he used the Arkansas hype to get a bigger payday from Auburn. Boosters are also turned off by his coaching style
Malzahn can salavage a little bit with wins over Ole Miss and TAMU but boosters are tired of the inconsistent seasons, unexplained losses, predictable play calling etc. That's part of Malzahn and they believe it will continue to repeat
Many inside the inner circle believe the game has passed him by because of his refusal to change / adapt and unwillingness to allow another OC come in and install a new system. It's sad when several other teams run your offense and they all run it better than you do. Also 3 terrible years of planning and recruiting on the Oline is concering
People understand it will be difficult to part ways because of national perception and financial burden but many powerful people in the state are willing to do it for the sake of the program
Should Malzahn finish with a winning record he may not get fired this season but "the beginning of the end is already here"
Things are not better in the locker room. There is still division among players. Players held a meeting last week and there are several players wanting to transfer out.

I'd say that if the booster get the person that they really want to agree to come, it doesn't matter if GusShortBus goes 9-3.

Simple, fear of the unknown. I said it last year that his stunt would not go over well and he wouldn't coach out that contract.

Hard to write a story about a program derailing when the program isn't being derailed.
Don't blame BM that Gus' program is coming apart at the seams

Per BM, largely in part to not having an AD in place (JJ was on his way out) so it was up to Leath

True. He held camps to teach other coaches how to run his system. Chad Morris is the first example that comes to mind. Who runs it better: Gus or Chad?

Boosters did not sign off on this. Also JGT has an informative post, paraphrasing.. Leath is on an Island, he did not listen to a lot of people about the contract. The board went along with it, but.....
There is some room for negotiation on the buyout.
The Money is there.

Eh, it depends. I mean, no booster will take blame for this, ever.
Harbert just bought himself $40mil in influence at Auburn. If he feels like this could affect the power/influence he wields at Auburn, paying a few $mil more is a small price.
I also 100% believe that some boosters would be interested in playing the savior role and the elevated status it would give them in terms of influence/power at Auburn.
Also JGT said that Auburn people have claimed they'd fight the buyout amount, even if it meant taking it to court. Hard to imagine Gus not taking a reduced amount to avoid prolonged legal entanglements

If the board went along with it, the boosters that matter signed off. What JGT is saying is that the boosters that were behind this are going to pin it all on Leath. The president doesn't just sneak a $49mil mega buyout contract past the Board of Trustees.
Boosters will just play it off like they were deferring to the judgment of the president. They voiced concerns and were skeptical of the contract but felt they didn't have a choice. They will play the "unwitting accomplice"
