That didn't last long. Battered fan syndrome is real.
Those occasional championships are worth the wait in any form they come.
WDE!

Some of us oldsters are concerned we may not sniff another (SEC or national) until we are gone.

Saturday night I texted my buddy (Michigan grad), “frick college football, I’m done with this shite. I’m not watching another game this season.” He calmly texted back, “You’re going to watch them all.” I replied, “Shut the frick up!”
Because I knew he was right. :-)
We all get pissed in the moment. It’s not an entirely bad thing. It’s because we care. We get over it. Ain’t nothing we can do about it but go out and lay our guts on the line again. AND AGAIN! AND AGAIN!
P.S. Whatever you do, don’t miss the game this Saturday. Auburn is going to win.

Those of us who are older than dirt have seen both ups and downs. Sometimes the most dramatic ups come after some long and depressing lows. AU football is like a roller coaster that way.

We got though 2012 painful as it was. It did make 2013 sweeter.

I married into this 24 years ago so I'm relatively new, but in the "old" SEC of 12 and then 14 teams, I felt like there were six elite programs...not elite every year, but the SEC champ and any potential national contenders would come almost exclusively from that group. With 4 losing seasons in a row, and not having been a legit contender since 2017, it feels like we're rapidly slipping into the second tier (or worse), with a tough road to ever contend again. That's a hard thing to swallow when you've been to the mountain top.

Is your fandom conditional on this?

We just need to win a game against a good team. Learn how to win one

Dibs of your basketball seats.

I would say that is a legit concern. We have been bad for over a decade.
And we are worse than ever today.
Edit
Love the downvote. A team is remembered by one thing. Wins/losses. Now please explain how this (hopefully) 4 win team is better than recent teams.

Fandom is a one way street.
Schools, coaches and players only care about money from fans.
Ask Hugh to sing the fight song. Or any players...
See if they know it... all they do is clap during it.
But they haven't had much practice singing it in the locker room. Have to win to sing.

Being an Auburn fan is like having a football team for family. We get mad and maybe throw a few cross words at them but in the end we still love them.

Not at all. It is merely a concern. And justified by the 3 going on 4 losing seasons.

10 team league when I was young, even during college.
Played Tennessee, MSU, Florida, Georgia, and Alabama every year plus always played Georgia Tech.
All of those except MSU were true rivalries.
Florida was first to come to Auburn.
Georgia played us in Columbus every year until 1960. Tennessee came to the Plains in 1974. Bama capitulated in 1989.
Now with 16 teams we will likely lose touch with all rivals.

Same. You used to be able to set your watch by those AU schedules.
Cupcake
Cupcake
Tennessee
Rotating SEC or decent non-conference
Georgia Tech
Rotating SEC or decent non-conference
Mississippi State
Florida
Homecoming
Georgia
Alabama
But we won’t lose contact with a 16 team SEC. If it goes the way it should, everyone will play everyone twice every 4 years. That’s a lot more Tennessee and Florida than we’ve gotten in decades. I’m looking forward to it.

Watch to enjoy the young players. Especially on defense.

We’ve given something up with every expansion.
Are we going to 10 games?
2 permanent opponents?

What they’ve said is a 9 game SEC schedule with 3 permanent and 6 rotating. Which means everyone plays everyone (at least) twice every 4 seasons.
The reason it wasn’t established starting in 2024 is that ESPN/ABC wouldn’t pony up for a 9th SEC game. If the television money doesn’t get worked out by 2026, the SEC will probably go to 1 permanent, 7 rotating opponents. (So still everyone playing everyone every 4 seasons. We’d lose UGA as an annual, but to play Tennessee and Florida more often, I’d take it.)
