Serious question, do you think Hugh Freeze did anything different than what the school across our State has done?

Freeze called hookers on a school phone. That's terrible on multiple levels. He really deserves everything he gets for his dumbassery/immorality.

Meh. I think there's a bunch of coaches that could be the GOAT if they had bama's talent. Except for Kirby, we proved he sucks with talent.

Pearl had a BBQ and lied to the NCAA =/= Freeze using school provided resources to solicit prostitutes for recruits. If you can't see the difference, I'm not sure it's worth continuing a discussion.

If Bruce Pearl were a competent coach he would either still be at Tennessee or he would’ve catapulted that job into a major P5 HC position. But instead he lied, his staff cheated, and he was fired amidst a scandal.

Above is exactly what people were saying just a few years ago.

Hugh Freeze got caught doing what a lot of school do to get recruits. Dodge Chargers and Challengers were being handed out like candy, across the State. Now that they are putting their entire team in the NFL, they don't need to do that anymore.

Ambition has led a lot of good men astray. If he says that he has repented, then I'm inclined to believe him, so I'm not all that worried about him resorting to those old tactics to get big time recruits to sign at Auburn.

I disagree. Hugh got caught doing something fairly unsavory himself, using school resources. That's just f-ing stupidity.

I'm not saying that stuff doesn't go down, but do you think Nick Saban is speed dialing Destiny and Tiffany from his bama-issued phone? If a head coach is that brazen and stupid, what the hell are his assistants doing?

It’s time for Freeze. Everyone wants to win, let’s do it.
Yeah, let’s pay the outrageous buyout on our current HC and his staff so we can enter into negotiations with the same guy who wrote the outrageous buyout.

You know, just like we did in 2008, and again in 2012. I’m sure it will work out much better this time around.

How much more of AU’s money does this man deserve?

So you think another high school coach is the answer for what reason?

This is why I am saying at least talk to Sarkesian.

Who doesn't Sexton represent? Maybe we need to start there. Was it Chizik we made fire Sexton before we'd negotiate with him? What changed? frick that guy!

It's not the x's & o's, it's the Jimmy's and Joe's.

Freeze isn't my first choice, but give him the talent we can get, and we won't go 0-12 against our rivals in their house.

Pretty sure that Freeze had more NFL players on his roster during that time than Gus did and his still lost 75% of the time.

I concur.

I’d heard that rumor before, but never got it confirmed. We gave Chiz a Sextonian buyout after 2010 as I recall - $10 million was a record setter at the time.

Again, we are of one mind

I don’t think I could come up with a list of more than 10 guys who are worse for Auburn than Gus.

I would change coaches with almost any power 5 team today except for:

Muschump
Prewitt
Herman

Maybe a few others.

Any competent coach can beat the Mississippi schools, arkansas, and Texas A&M plus a few crap directional schools.
Too many people are letting a few wins over bama cloud their judgement.

Gus is 8 years into his program and getting blown out.

Fire him and hire anyone.

Anyone.

No offense, but that’s the exact mindset that got Gustav the gig in the first place.

My first calls would be to Mario and Sark. Make them say no.

Both could be great here. I lean towards Mario because of his ability to recruit linemen. We all know that’s an area that needs improvement. It was on full display yesterday.

Not really.

Didn't we form a committee and waste more time and money finding the "best"?

The fact that we actually have people questioning Freeze's legitimacy as a FOOTBALL coach is mind blowing. The guy is absolutely legitimate and would field a winning team here, quickly. He is in essence the legitimate, non con artist version of what Malzahn was SUPPOSED to be. His offense has clicked everywhere, and one thing that you'll notice immediately from three different stops now is that he takes whatever garbage he's walked into and transforms it immediately into a viable offense and winning roster. Arky State went from 4-8 to 10-3 in his one season there. Ole Miss went from 2-12 to 7-6 in his first season. Liberty went from 6-6 to 8-5. The guy built Ole Miss into a 10-win team and came a hair away from beating Saban in three consecutive games - at Ole fricking Miss. Yes, they were cheating - but they were doing nothing different than what every other major college program, including our own, has done and continues to do to get recruits. The only difference is that the NCAA came down because they got too good too fast at a school that isn't supposed to be a threat - it was all too obvious, and thus an example had to be made. If anything, at a major program like Auburn there wouldn't be a need to be so deliberate in cheating, and I'm sure he's learned a thing or two about how to "play the game" more discreetly.

The guy is 100% an upgrade over Malzahn in every on-field parameter. He is also much more impressive from a personality/mentality standpoint - his players love playing for him and unlike Malzahn he isn't a completely passive "play not to lose" dork. Now, the off-field stuff with the hookers is a legitimate wart and its perfectly fine if thats an automatic no-go for anyone, but don't sit here and try to tell me that this guy isn't a legitimately scary football coach that would make noise at any program with the resources we possess. Did I forget to mention that he gets performance out of the most important position on the field - the quarterback? He took our cast-off that our own genius coach wouldn't even let throw the football and has made him into an NFL prospect. And make no mistake about it: Malik Willis is a considerably better NFL prospect than Bo Nix. THat should tell you all you need to know in this comparison: the kid that our own HC wouldn't even let throw the football is showing an NFL-caliber arm under Freeze.
