Have we talked about checkgate?

Did Thorne change the 4th down call or not? Freeze says yes. Jarquez says yes. Video evidence says yes. Thorne is now saying no? Wtf?
Paraphrasing: “it’s something I think is better to leave in house but I did not check the play. It was something we’ve seen on film that I was seeing and the coaches have gone back on tape and have see”
Does this make sense to anybody? You want to keep it in house but then you talk about it? You didn’t check the play but you saw something on the field? Would it matter if you saw something on the field if you just ran the play that was called?
Someone explain this to me. He clearly checked it.

He's essentially saying Freeze is lying in the nicest way possible. The Thorne era can't end soon enough. Freeze picking and then doubling down on Thorne will likely end up being the 2nd largest mistake Hugh has made in his career.

The second video, you decide. It sure looks like he is making adjustments.

Thorn clearly doesn't like freeze. Dont blame him for the countless times of throwing him under the bus.
What Thorne might be saying is Freeze saw the gaping hole on the left side in the replay and is lying saying the run should've went there. Ive said before Freeze might be trying to scapegoat Thorne. Cubelic cant make sense of the play enough to say who is lying and who isnt.

quote:Yes. To me it means that when given a certain look by the defense, Freeze has game planned with Thorne on what play he should run. If he gives away the look, then other defenses will use that to their advantage and scheme against Freeze's response to pressure or whathaveyou
Does this make sense to anybody?
Better to keep that in house instead of broadcast it to other teams. yes Thorne was coached to go zone read with that look. Yes Freeze called the run play for Hunter and yes PT made the decision to run the ZR. However he didnt have to check to it as he was just reading the defense and reacting RPO style. (too much freedom for PT in this offense)
Freeze should have never given him the option. Hunter all the way. No exceptions.

Whatever he did, no one went to the right side to block, so he completely f'd it up regardless of a check out or not. It's pretty clear by Hunter and Freeze's reaction, that's not what was supposed to happen.

This is the most overused statement in sports.
They ask Hugh a question. He answers it truthfully. He's throwing Thorne under the bus....
How about grow some hair on your nuts and stop fricking up?

Your videos suck bro. Grow a hair.
I defended Freeze when he said we have to stop giving the ball away. That's not throwing them under the bus because they do have to stop.
Last game was different and the announcers picked up on it. The soundbyte the announcers created "I dont know what else Thorne could've done differently" is about to reverberate in negative recruiting.
FTR: I am only kidding about the videos.

I wonder which will reverberate in negative recruiting louder?
A. bus-throwing
B. losing

Freeze can sell early losses fine.

Yep.. he’s answering a question, what do you want CHF to do.. lie?
Ya’ll got tired of the Coach speak “good week of practice”, “hard fought”, etc and now get a little bit of detail and get soft.
Throwing him under the bus would be:
“Payton is blind and can’t see the field; he also thinks he’s John Elway and changing plays on his own accord even though he won’t step up in the pocket and get the ball out under 4 seconds.”

It seems clear that Thorne saw the unblocked end and tried to ad lib the play and pull the ball… my impression is freeze was pissed Thorne pulled it… but now that we have all info, HF shouldn’t have reacted that way.
Ultimately it doesn’t matter… plenty of blame to go around between coaches and Thorne.

Two weeks in a row he has shifted the blame off of himself on "The Next Round" on Tuesdays.
The last one was he would've done the Oklahoma play10/10 times.

When you're a coach, you lie and say that's on me I've got to put them in a better position. Doesn't matter what the truth is or what happened. You take it 100% and don't put it on the players. Especially with some of the atrocious coaching Hugh has done this season.

Why? These are paid athletes at a level just below the NFL.
I think the fans have the right to now why a play went wrong.

It doesn’t matter if Thorne made the call or not. If you have a QB who consistently makes bad decisions, or changes plays when he shouldn’t, that’s a coaching issue.
Want a run, call a run; don’t give the run pass option. Don’t want your QB changing the plays, strip him of that authority. Plenty of college offenses better than Auburn’s where the QB doesn’t have the authority to change the playcall.
Freeze can be mad at Thorne for making the wrong decision, but he only has himself to blame for giving him the authority to make those decisions.

Atrocious coaching?
Calling passing plays that has one of the guys wide open? Too bad PT can’t see the field or run his progressions in an allotted time.
Yes we should have ran the ball in OU game to run the clock out. Too bad CHF called running plays and PT decided to change it to pass.
Common denominator is Payton T. My Armchair QB remote has pause to prove it. Watch Aaron Murray even break it down.
Give CHF a break we don’t have a competent QB. I was fooled by thinking he would have some Jason Campbell improvements

Looks like it should have gone to the other side?
