Probably couldn't handle the constant hell(mostly deserved) he was catching from the fans. I had big hopes that he was going to break the streak of nothing having a NFL draft pick from the O-line. Hopefully 26 will be the year.
I know Graham. He definitely doesn’t want Durkin to be the hire.

You all better get used to it.

Well they can get used to fans booing. Promoting Durkin and retain the majority of the staff will not reset the clock on fans being over poor play. They can expect booing as soon as they look in over their heads.

If we have to fail I’d rather be know as trying to go after the hot commodity than settling for a coach that no one else wanted as a head coach. Especially if it reinforces the notion Auburn has to mettle in hiring.

I’d rather keep durkin and fire him 3 years from now.

You’d rather the program become even less relevant on a national level and then have to pay more money to try to get Auburn out of the hole? How does that make sense?

I believe his staff will be a mixture of Troy and Tulane guys couple that with the roster turnover that will happen and next years schedule

We shall see. I wouldn't be surprised by a few in smaller positions but I'd be very surprised if the coordinators didn't have experience either as a head coach or at a power 4 program. The only rumors to the contrary have been solely from people assuming the worst.

Auburn will spend to maintain the majority of roster.
Not arguing, but genuinely wondering what makes you think it would take a long time to turn things around? The NIL money is there to maintain a large portion of the roster/ fill in gaps. Sumrall did well in the portal relative to Tulane's position in CFB. As a coach in the SEC he was a solid recruiter.
If those are the only hires that you would consider to be good I fear you will be disappointed.

He's still sleeping it off
Dan Lanning is not leaving Oregon. What makes you think he'd leave them for Auburn when their mega booster could easily match whatever amount we throw out at him? Do you not think Bama tried to make a market setting offer to him when Saban retired?
He's definitely looking to get away from USC; between their NIL collective situation being wonky/bad and the fact he's not meeting their expectations I can't blame him for wanting to start somewhere new. I'd happily support him if the rumors are legit; it's not my money that would probably overpay for him.

Why do you consider Sumrall to be the apathy choice when he's almost certainly going to end up at one of Auburn, Ole Miss, or UF if Lane leaves for LSU?

I'm sure if you put a little effort into it you can come up with a nickname that actually fits the conference he'd be coming from.
You didn't think Brian Kelly was an upgrade over Ed Orgeron after Ed had gone 11-11 his last two years on campus?
He most definitely would be a splash hire. Brian Kelly also made a splash at LSU. How did that work out? Splash doesn't equal success.
If the LSU offer is legit Lane is going to have a base of at least 14 million. I really like Lane as a coach but I don't think he's worth making him highest paid coach especially given the maturity concerns.
My point is so many people are hoping for a splash hire but this "splash hire" has been pretty mid. I don't think Kiffin is worth all of the fuss he's getting. Since finding the next elite coach is a crap shoot I'd personally rather hire a up and coming good coach than overpay for a coach that would only leave to restart his clock on being on the hot seat like Riley.

Our defense is competent when compared directly to our offense, but our defense is NOT stellar when compared to other SEC defenses.

Coming into yesterday Auburn had the 17th ranked defense nationally in SB+. But there were 7 SEC teams ahead of us. So Auburn both has an extremely efficient defense when compared to the rest of the country, but it's middle tier compared to rest of the SEC.

Please, sweet dear baby Jesus. Please allow Auburn to hire a coach that actually is a splash

Riley is 6-13 against ranked opponents at USC.
Buster Faulkner and Kade Bell have both called some good plays early. Pitt is executing, GT is not.
I’ve only seen PDF actively mention Neal Brown repeatedly. The only credible people that have mentioned Charles Kelly have said the only way he gets serious consideration is if Auburn misses on numerous other candidates.

I was responding to you saying this. If he’s your guy you end the other interviews, but you don’t make an announcement until after the season ends. Out of respect for your team and staff and his team and staff. No one announces they’ve hired someone else’s coach during the regular season. Maybe during bowl season but never during the regular season.
