Only under Dye have we really had such stability, but I generally agree.

Either fire Freeze or make him OC/head coach in name only. He's a good recruiter, but we need a real offense to go with a very stout defense.

I'm not asking for much, I just want to see the first half of UGA game all season long.

Unless we lose to Kentucky or Mercer, I feel like it would be foolish to make a change.

There will be several more high profile jobs open up, and the last thing we need is to get into a bidding war and overpay for some unproven coach.

I saw a recent interview with Dilly. He was talking about his assistant coaching path to HC and said he picked Dan Lanning at Oregon to work for because Lanning is a defensive HC. He said that no OC wants to work for an offensive head coach.

So, yeah, the whole "hire an OC and let him take over offense" won't work. No good ones would take the job, especially knowing Freeze is on hot seat. You would be better off just making said OC the HC.

We haven't hired some amazing proven coach in our entire history so that wouldn't be my expectation. But turning the page on a clearly bad hire and paying a modest amount to an up and comer seems like a legitimate option.

Who has hired an "amazing proven coach" in the SEC? Bama got lucky that Saban said yes. Other than them, no one has hired some guy with a ton of rings.

Florida got Meyer from the G5. Now he was a very good G5 coach, but I remember lots of skepticism around the hire.

UGA hired Kibry from Saban. I remember tons of skepticism around him too (Oh it was all Saban defense, not his).

Ryan Day was promoted from an assistant to HC when Meyer retired.

Dabo was a WR coach who randomly got promoted.

You guys act like there are a bunch of NC coaches just sitting out there waiting. The only coach in America who has a ring (and isn't retired or already at a major program) is Jimbo Fisher.

Totally agree. It doesn't really happen. Almost every hire is a bit of a shot in the dark.

Hell, a sizeable amount of the Ohio State fanbase still wants Ryan Day gone

Kirby dealt with a lot of criticism after yr 1 as did Ryan Day which is crazy when you realize Day’s record

The problem with Freeze has been the horrible play calling and lack of a plan on how to get the ball to the teams playmakers on offense. Too many designed runs with the QB is lazy play calling. Jackson Arnold was typically leading the team in carries. The offensive play Saturday was not good enough to win without the defense taking over the game. I don’t know how that gets addressed with Freeze around but the defensive coaching is miles ahead of the offense. The defense shut A/M down on the road and Petrino had no answer. That staff built a champion. The O staff hasn’t built shite.

I disagree with the premise that off play wasn’t good enough to win Sat. . I think offensively we could have won both Mizzu and Arky but our issue is the red zone

He definitely has to be more creative there as the throwing lanes are tighter and Jackson struggles with decisions

With where we currently are, this will be true every year. Freeze is not the answer and even if we get the 4th best coach who is willing to make a change this year, we're still better off.

I said last year if we keep Freeze, we will not dig out for at least 3-4 more years. You gotta give him time!!!!! How has that worked out? Now we have a whole bunch of new talking points. The problem is most of our fans are scared. Scared something bad will happen.

Keep him yet another year and we will have cemented ourselves as a lower mid SEC team for at least the next decade.

When you folks say we can’t do any better or that there are too many jobs out there better than Auburn, that can be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I really hope the people making decisions don’t think like a lot of our scared fans here. We ride with Hugh Freeze, we won’t amount to anything.

so next year, if all those “high profile jobs” that are opening up all have HCs they hired this cycle on their first seasons

what kind of candidates do you think will be available if we decide to replace Freezus then?

I know you folks are scared to death of other teams. I asked this elsewhere. Do you think there is going to be some magic program builder coach born between this year and next year? If they will be there next year, they are out there this year.

I don't know. I do know if we wait one more year, there will not be a better SEC team with a job opening. That is not the case this year.

No it isn't. If Franklin is not good enough for Penn State, he is not good enough for Auburn and his actions at Vanderbilt show moral character issues that we don't need.

This sentiment is based upon a couple of premises that may not be true:

1. That we want the same coaches that UF and LSU do. That may not necessarily be true.

2. That we haven't already worked out something with another coach completely behind the scenes. Perhaps we already have a coach locked down.

Freeze has this baggage too.
