Does this mean FSU will not retain Kendall Briles?

I have a few FSU friends who think Charlie Strong is coming there as DC. Will be interesting to see where he lands

All rumors at this point. Although Cole Cubelic is a believer... he said he heard "homerun assistant hires" in reply to Strong and Briles

Sources: Auburn targets Chad Morris for OC job LINK

quote:

Should the new coordinator be Morris, it could be a grand-slam hire for Auburn coach Gus Malzahn. The two have been close friends since their days coaching high school football (Morris in Texas and Malzahn in Arkansas). Morris adopted and adapted Malzahn's offense in the early 2000s during his high school career after the two met for a week in January 2004 at Springdale High in Arkansas.

If so, that means Ole Miss will be yet another contender in the West in several years. Strong is a hell of a DC and Briles is a solid OC, IMO. Of course, Lane could get caught with a dead hooker and all of it get blown up.

Take notes Gus. This is how you do it. We could've had baby Briles a couple years ago. Gus'ego wouldn't allow a real OC to come in tho.

This could very well be a mutual thing for all parties. Gus could very well WANT to hire Morris, and Dilly going to FSU with Norvell is the perfect out.

Lets assume for a second that Morris is headed to the plains. Will be very interesting to see how he is used and how much power Gus gives him. Gus could get some momentum going with the offense if he sticks to the current situation but giving more control to Morris would be a different dynamic.

Very interesting

This is more likely than Ole Miss landing Strong and Briles IMO

I don't think folks would have issues with him giving the keys to Morris in that he is more proven. Much different than ceding control to Dillingham or even Chip Lindsey.

Yes. But if we did well, Morris would probably be a one year guy. Id love to see some consistency on the offensive side of the ball with our coaches. How many OC's have we had in the past 10 years?

What about Brent Dearmon OC at Kansas this year?

Morris is actually more likely to stay long term than most OC candidates I would think. He just failed as a head coach. I guess you're thinking he just wants a year to rehabilitate his stature and then get an Arky State type job but it's more common that failed P5 HC are just content to go back to their old roles long term. Steele, Ellis Johnson, Orgeron, etc.

Not big on the Morris direction. This would just be more Gus. We already have Gus. Gus is gonna Gus and the only QB coaching will come from Gus, and I'm sure Pat Nix on the side.

We need to go bring Dell McGee back home. Would be huge for recruiting and at the same time cut the legs out from under Kirby since he also just lost his other top recruiter.

Gus is gonna Gus. If Morris would have an impact on the offense, I don't know if I would be for it. Clemson and SMU both got better after he left.

We have Gus running the offense. We need big time recruiting.

Marcello says Morris is the guy that is targeted.

Have to consider us kinda lucky getting Morris if he comes to Auburn. He used to be the hottest OC in the country and the only thing he failed at was being HC.

And his scheme is very compatible to Gus’s. Their relationship can be simpatico if he can use some of his passing wrinkles.

Wonder what happens if Clemson loses their OC if Morris would go back
