Yeah but that was 1st down. They punted on 3rd because chain gang had it wrong and refs somehow relied only on that

Yes but the grounding play was on 1st down so the next play is 2nd down. Loss of down just means they don't get to play the down over in which they got the penalty like most all other penalties allow.

Pretty sure the intentional grounding was on 1st down. They lose the first. Take the yards and play 2nd.
