Does it burn anyone else up that a huge number of athletes train in the US?

Especially in swimming and track and field. A huge number of athletes come to the US and either attend our universities or train with our top people and then compete against us in the Olympic Games.

I know Auburn had 10 athletes competing and only Suni Lee was American.

Nope, we get to practice/compete against best and that's always good.

Short answer, no.

Long answer, in the first scenario the university reaps the benefits of the athlete’s abilities and in the second scenario our “top people” are getting paid. Not sure why that would bother me. Especially over the freaking Olympics. I mean, I root for US athletes to win. But in the end, I don’t consider it that big a deal. I think of it as more of a friendly exhibition and appreciate great performances by athletes regardless of where they’re from.

Umm no.

A lot of those athletes would compete for the US but they don’t qualify. No problem with them qualifying for their birth country in that case.

There are plenty of natural born US citizens that compete for other countries too.

I remember when a Saudi Arabian little league team went far in the LLWS because it had all the US kids of military on deployment.

Many years ago I was at the grocery store here in Trinidad at the bottom of the Caribbean. I see a tall athletic woman coming the other direction with an Auburn shirt on and so I said War Eagle. She stopped smiled and said well War Eagle, you know of Auburn?

She then told me her son, George Bovell, was a swimmer there and then just raved about Auburn the people, and in closing said "I have a younger son who swims and if Momma has her way, he will be at Auburn as well", he did.

A week or so later Im at the gym and see this tall lanky kid with an Auburn tshirt and say War Eagle to which he responds "You know where this is?" Then said, you must be the guy my mom met at the grocery she told me about it, we dont have many Auburn people here. I asked him how a kid from Trinidad ends up at Auburn and he said his parents told him if he wanted to be the best, train with the best.

He said Mr. Trinidad, we will win National Championships the whole time Im there (they did) and I could come in 2nd or 3rd in practice at Auburn and still time well enough to medal in the Olympics (he did, he won a bronze).

If all athletes who trained in the states were like this family, fantastic ambassadors for Auburn, Im all for it.

You meet fellow members of the Auburn family in some pretty far away places. I have met Auburn fans in Central and South America, the Caribbean, and the UK. Auburn people are some of the absolute best and I am thankful that they make the world better wherever they go.

I was in a small Tuscan village, saw an italian girl with an AU shirt and told her War Eagle. She had no clue what I was talking about. Didn't know Goodwill operated in that part of Italy.

The Olympics are basically a joke now. I’m not sure why anyone would care.

If you fricks make all the hard work of these athletes be a joke because of some terrible opening ceremony and loop them all in with that you are the joke. It's illogical. They have ZERO say in how the opening ceremonies go, they train their whole life for a small window to compete and you then discount all of that for some creepy artist's take for an opening ceremony. yeah I think it was creepy af to celebrate likely mentally ill people, but it has NOTHING to do with all the thousands of athletes there competing for a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Dont try to group me or judge me. You know absolutley nothing about me dude. The Olympics have sucked long before any opening ceremony nonsense.

The Olympics have sucked since they stop being Olympic. Since they added Basketball, tennis, golf, rock climbing and other bull shite. Its not the olympics anymore to me

How did you enjoy the break dancing? Do you consider the gold medal winner a "olympic champion"?

Its fricks like you that continue to grind the bullshite out there and try to group everyone together. I could care less about queers dancing on a damn stage.

Very few of the athelets these days meet your criteria. Most of them now are professional atheletes that get paid year round to do what they do. So Lebron James winning a gold medal againt totally undermaned teams is not the big of a deal to me

I mean there are definitely some bullshite sports included but using these as an example is weird.

What’s wrong with these being included?

All three are more of athletic competitions than Chariot racing.

There is nothing athletic about Bass Fishing.

Thats why it is not a sport. Just a competition
