I’d be surprised if he wasn’t staying since he’s been out visiting players. That would be too sloppy for Freeze with how detailed he’s been so far on the trail

I will melt if we dont get a TOP D Coordinator. I can't go back to what our def looked like during the Chiz years.

There’s a chance he could be in just an analyst type position.

"Don’t know if it has been mentioned, but Wesley McGriff is likely coming back to Auburn."

OK, the balance is now teetering on being too loyal.

Any ideas about Trevon Reed's status?

Or remain what it’s been in the Harsin years.

Completely agree. We have saved some money on the Freeze hire, please throw big money at a D Coordinator.

Reports say Prime to Colorado, and he’s bringing a DC from uat. I would guess that would be T Rob.

I think Mcgriff coaches DBs and Zac safties or visa versa. DC has been hired but not announced.

Wasn't it McGriff that taught our DBs to never turn around and look for the ball?

UNC has actually had above average offensive talent. And until this year, an elite offensive line coach

Stacey Searels. We need to bring him home!

Auburn (2016)
In his one season as secondary coach and co-defensive coordinator at Auburn, McGriff helped guide the Tigers to a Sugar Bowl berth as the Tigers went from the bottom third of the SEC in 2015 to top three in the league in 2016 in scoring defense (11th/26.0 to 2nd/15.6), rushing defense (11th/182.7 to 3rd/124.8) and third-down conversion defense (13th/44.9 to 2nd/34.0).

The Tigers gave up far less explosive plays of 10+ yards (190 in 2015, 144 in 2016) and were locked down when it came to allowing touchdowns in the red zone (51.0 percent to 34.2 percent). Auburn ranked seventh nationally in scoring defense (17.1 ppg) and 11th in total red zone defense (74.4 percent) in 2016.

Auburn (2019-2021)
McGriff joined Auburn for a second time in 2019 as the defensive backs coach under Gus Malzahn. Under McGriff’s coaching in the secondary, Auburn saw defensive backs Noah Igbinoghene (First Round) and Daniel Thomas (Fifth Round) drafted in the 2020 NFL Draft. Auburn’s passing defense improved from No. 7 in the SEC in 2018, which was the year before he arrived in Auburn, to No. 3 in the SEC in his final season with the Tigers in 2020.

Our 2010 defense was great. Advanced stats had it top 10-15 in the country

They were one of the best bend but don't break defenses. Top Defense in the SEC in Rushing Yards per game. Last in Passing Yards per game.

From JGT:

quote:

Hugh Freeze has twice spoken with Matt Luke about becoming part of this staff.

Luke is the former head coach at Ole Miss and, later, offensive line coach at Georgia for their national championship season. He resigned after the 2021 season and has spent 2022 with his family (and on the golf course) in the Atlanta suburbs. It's unclear if Luke desires to coach again, but Freeze has made two separate offers.

I don't know exactly what kind of role has been offered. It is OL coach or OL+Run Game OC? Not sure on that one.

Let's see how this plays out.

ps: Freeze also has spoken with Phil Longo, who currently serves as offensive coordinator at North Carolina. He's seen as more of a passing/quarterback expert, so it's possible he could collaborate with Luke. (UNC currently ranks No. 8 in the FBS in passing yards per game and overall quarterback rating.) Longo served as Luke's OC while at Ole Miss.

Yeah, I don't see CO being the right fit. USF, on the other hand...

Colorado needs to tap into Texas talent. Prime can do that.
