Do you enjoy the drama and the "what if's" with these coaching searches? Just hoping that we can finally nail that home run hire? Do you find them at all exciting?

Or do you enjoy being out of the fray, with a decent coach, just being able to sit back and laugh at our rivals and the surrounding chaos? The UF/LSU "insider" posts would be comedy gold any other year. But I'm having to worry that we're going to be naming Les Miles or Dell McGee as HC.

NO, BECAUSE IT USUALLY MEANS WE HAVE ENDURED SOME BAD SEASONS

Just hoping that we can finally nail that home run hire? YES, KEEP HOPE ALIVE

Do you find them at all exciting?
NOT REALLY

Or do you enjoy being out of the fray, with a decent coach, just being able to sit back and laugh at our rivals and the surrounding chaos?
I HOPE WE GET TO THIS STATUS SOMETIME SOON

The last 3 coaching searches stole my innocence. The dreams of Corch Irvin Meyers died long ago. RIP

The longer the search lasts the more uneasy I get. I know we can’t help timing but I’m just saying that’s usually how it goes for me.

We aren't getting anyone exciting so i don't really care. We may hire someone who turns out to be great but all of the realistic candidates have question marks if not outright warts. Silver lining is that it won't be Hugh freeze and that's good enough with me.

how often has this been the case at AU?

even going back to the Dye days we were frequently exposed to rumors of “bigger programs” stealing him away ( Texas in 1985, UGa in 1986 and 1988)

Bowden was rumored to both Oklahoma & Texas after his early success

Tuberville was linked with LSU and Arkansas openings more than once

I dont enjoy them at all.

Ive never really got too pumped up about any head coach that Auburn hired at the time they hired them. It may be my pessimistic nature. Or the fact that Auburn cant bring in big name coaches.

It does give the board something to talk about other than our shitty team.

I enjoyed the drama in week 1 when On3 subs were a dollar.

Now I am realizing nobody wants to leave their current school, and Auburn is a spirit that is afraid.

No. I don't like worrying about who we will end up with. Finding a coach for Auburn is like finding a husband for your daughter. Nobody is good enough.

I was excited about potentially getting Lane Kiffin last go around, but other than that dating back to the Chizik coaching search I have definitely become bored of them. I am ready for this one to be over and none of the real candidates get my rocks off but I think there is a world in which a few of them could find success.

Last shining moment of our coaching searches was getting Muschamp.

It was as early as October 2014 there was already chatter on the boards that we need to replace Ellis with Muschamp. As the weeks went by the chatter increased. Then the paysites validated the talk as credible. Then Jay Jacobs gave Gus Malzahn a blank check and said go het him. Then the last few weeks before the hiring I was pounding the refresh button until we got him. Start to finish that was probably the most exciting search that landed. The fruit of that search was defensive stability, key recruits like Carlton Davis and Jeff Holland, and a defensive foundation that Steele could work with.

If you weren't here then you missed out.

This is true. I was here under another username.

I was so sure the Gus offense would always prevail, and of course the Jeremy Johnson hype.. we thought we were about to go on absolute tear if we could land Muschamp to fix the defense.

Hell no I hate coaching searches now. One thing I know is if Auburn has favor they will hire a middle of the road coach and he will actually pan out enough to keep his job and give fans actual real reasons to be excited for the coming season is about the best case scenario.

At this point, the chance of Auburn having a homerun hire is about as good as us throwing for 400 ypg next season. The only thing I expect from AFB anymore is for the coach to be lacking seriously in some way and that our QB is gonna have the worst season possible. I loathe for the days when people are not afraid to ask how the game went, again

No. I hate it. The program being in limbo hurts recruiting. In the transfer era, I'm scared we're going to lose our best players. The entire process is nauseating..

I will admit I enjoy anything remblembling karma, in terms of our Rivals....

Linked by Sexton.

If a coach wants to leave, he will leave.

I’d like a less dramatic buyout for our coaches.
Both ways.

If they think they can do better somewhere else, let them go.

Yep. Pretty much been nothing exciting for Auburn with that one exception. Now, LSU and FL are in a race to get Lane and Auburn is just looking in the scratch and dent pile.

Sure, and at least one of those (if not both of them) will be in the same spot we were ~3 years ago when we thought we had him.

Who gives a shite about "winning the press conference". LSU fans were also excited when they landed Brian Kelly in what was a very exciting coaching search.

No, but it's a way to salvage some entertainment value from a disappointing season.

Mama always said, "Auburn football is like a box of chocolates...you never know what you're going to get. But...it will be entertaining nonetheless...either very good or very bad with all of the dysfunction on full display."

I used to be in the drama of a coaching search, but this is the first time I don't even give a shite.

Auburn has broken me. I don't expect anything exciting from the next hire.

Screw me once, shame on you. Screw me multiple times, shame on me.

The only remote hope I have is that Auburn hires a guy who can coach and retain the talent. This can be a playoff team out of the gate. But that is the old me speaking from a galaxy far, far away.

I can barely hear the echo.
