Charles Barkley for Athletic Director

Tell me why this idea doesn't work. Now, I get he may never come, but would it be a good move?
Instant national news. Instant buzz around athletics. Give Barkley a great staff, let him be the face, the mouth, and the $ raiser. Have the admin side locked down with great people. His love for Auburn is unique and genuine.
If I was on the board, I'm making him tell me no.
I understand that if it didn't work, it would be a messy situation. But dang, it's still fun to think about.

Not to crap on your thesis, but I have heard MANY interviews of Barkley the last couple years and he is basically just sick and tired of working and has said he just wants to enjoy his last few years fishing and golfing as the world goes mad around him.

Great for message board conversation. Could never happen in reality. He is too much of a loose cannon to be the face of a major athletic department.

If we are talking about bringing in beloved former athletes, Bo Jackson makes more sense from a business perspective than Barkley but neither of those probably want to run an athletic department at this point in their life.

That sounds like Auburn.

I love Chuck. He's the best marketing for Auburn ever, but you gotta have some serious administrative chops to be an A.D. of a major P5 athletics department. We're already suffering from one guy who didn't have enough experience. Let's not compound the problem by hiring a second one.

Wouldn't Sir Charles try to keep Harsin? He has backed him the entire time.

I think he has more supported and advocated that he get a fair shot....which few others have.
Yesterday was really, really hard to watch.

Exactly! Neither probably wants to work that hard at this stage of their lives and they don't have to.

Chuck is making around $10mil/year with TNT. Allen Greene was getting paid $625,000/year. The highest ADs in the country are around $1mil/year.
I doubt Chuck wants to take a significant pay cut for more a more stressful job. And a job that could end with Auburn and Chuck not on good terms.

Barkley is a great ambassador for AU.
He’s ready to retire. Said he wants to retire at 60. He’s almost 60

AD doesn’t have to be a splash hire. Great organization skills, great communication skills, budgeting and financial skills. Fundraising and respected by the Auburn family. That’s the requirements

I don't want a fricktard like him negotiating anything. We'd be playing in Crampton Bowl once or twice a year.

Says the guy who uses the term fricktard and several other variations of retarded.

Damn it is hard to believe he gets paid that much for that job.

Bo did just build a new home in Auburn. Maybe,,,,just maybe they are ahead of us on this one.
