I'm always of the belief that we paid him and I always joke that it wasn't enough.

We were paying our players for quite a while just like everyone else. Friend of mine was dating Sammie Coates when he was at Auburn and she told me they would hand him $500-$1000 here and there after games if he got a TD or made some good plays. They just said "here's some money take your girlfriend out to the movies".

Were not talking about handshake money. That shite goes on everywhere. Were talking about a 180k duffle bag full of money to sign with Auburn. It didnt happen no matter how much people want to apply todays pay for play to yesterday's

I'm just saying that the precedent of paying our players already existed and was happening frequently. So it's not out of the realm of belief that we paid a few players more for their commitment.

I also don't think you can definitively say it did or didn't happen. There's a lot of conflicting information both ways and to take such a hard stance that it didn't happen is a little silly.

Look man, the FBI was involved for three years. Why is that being overlooked as if the FBI would just somehow miss 180k in cash when they are searching homes, bank records, phone record, everything.

From what I've read the FBI just had 1-2 sit down meetings with Cam and his family. I haven't seen any articles that suggest the FBI launched a full investigation and were pulling bank accounts to try to follow money.

Also seems a little beneath the paygrade of the FBI to be that involved. I always viewed their involvement as a deterrent for future schools/players transferring money.

FBI involvement can vary widely in scope.

they absolutely looked through bank records, phone records etc. Went through the Churchs as well.

I am just trying to understand why Cam is dredging this up again. He is perfectly within his rights whatever the frick he wants to do, but AUs name also gets drug in the mud every time this is brought

Cam was making a point that he was the victim in the entire situation which he was to a degree. But he continued to reach as if he was a victim because he was black.

Auburn masterfully coordinated most of all exposure for Cam and took the right steps. Cam I think still loves AU and Auburn will love him back.

I didn't get that vibe from the interview at all. Just that he felt unfairly attacked and betrayed by Mullins and his hoe wife

I think he was making a point that he was dealing with a lot while the world really only cared if he was eligible or not. He was right but he also seemed Superhuman and he did the SuperCam thing. Now he is showing he was human.

Whatever point he was making with tying his experience to black Americans it really didnt land.

There certainly does seem to be evidence in support of this contention.

You know, the thing I’ve noticed from so-called Auburn fans (so-called because when you say things bammers say, when it walks like a bammer and talks like a bammer…but giving the benefit of the doubt that they might actually be Auburn fans) who insist we paid Cam’s dad, the only logic they can come up with is “everybody cheats. We do too, and if you think we don’t then take off your orange and blue glasses!”

But these people will never address the logical points that clearly indicate that we did NOT pay Cam’s dad. They won’t address how they think our always-dysfunctional athletics department and booster network managed to cover up something so blatant, they won’t address how no other school recruiting Cam other than Mississippi State made any accusations, they won’t address how Cecil Newton was supposed to know who to approach for money, they won’t address how hell-bent the NCAA was to take us down yet ended up issuing the only official letter of exoneration in its history (at least that I’m aware of). Nope, the only logic that matters is “everybody pays their players, so what.”

As was pointed out earlier, the question at hand isn’t whether we pay players too, and it isn’t whether we have ever been cheating at any point in time, it’s whether we paid Cecil Newton the $180K we were accused of paying him, and in a broader sense, were we engaged in systemic pay-for-play (which is nowhere close to boosters engaging in $100 handshakes) in the time Cam was being recruited and played. After what we went through to come out clean, the only way anyone could still think we were guilty of either is if they want to believe it so bad that they are immune to any logic that indicates otherwise.
