This roster epitomizes the danger of relying so heavily on the transfer portal. Not every year is the transfer portal going to supply enough of the right players to meet your immediate needs.

Supposedly UM brass has known for weeks about CSM’s misdeeds and deliberately waited until after signing day, and agents have known for weeks that the UM job would be opening up. If that’s the case, any rumors that immediately started after CSM’s firing was announced could actually have some legs.

Barring a giant sinkhole, this was the best possible outcome for this game, as bama getting blown out was the only way either one could get knocked out of the playoffs.

Now being reported that Penn State is finalizing a deal with Matt Campbell. I’ll fully believe it when the ink is dry, but if that holds Penn State will have stumbled and fumbled into a pretty dang good hire.

…that’s a homerun hire for them.
Meanwhile, Penn State, who was the first high-profile firing so they could get a head start on the coaching carousel, is still without a coach, and just got turned down by BYU’s coach.

I was adamant about not wanting to hire Hugh Freeze, and I did a happy dance and high-fived my Auburn fan co-worker when the news broke that we fired him.
That said, I wish him no ill will and am pulling for him to get healthy, and will not begrudge him any future success he may find, whether in coaching or another endeavor.

I was all in on keeping Durkin in whatever capacity initially, but now I don’t know.
Too many fresh memories of our defense folding in the 4th quarter. And too many stale memories of Hugh Nall poisoning the well after we kept him.

A “4th quarter culture.”
The Iron Bowl was absolutely ours for the taking. We had those bastards on the ropes. We had all the momentum, finally we had the depth to match them, they were banged up. And we lost solely because we lack a 4th quarter culture.
And it’s not just our offense, it’s defense too. We have talked ad nauseam about how many times the offense has had the ball with a chance to tie/take the lead late in games and couldn’t get it done, but what about all the times the defense has had a chance to finish off a game with just one stop? No way in hell should bama have been able to stumble down the field for 8 minutes and score.
Then it was our offense’s turn, we drive down the field, get the ball in our best player’s hands near the red zone, he fumbles when all he needs to do is fall out of bounds, game over.
But our 4th quarter failures have been team failures, not just offense. And it’s due to completely lacking that 4th quarter culture.
That’s one of those things that’s impossible to define but you all know what I’m talking about.

Sumrall’s deal at FL reportedly $7.5M not the $10M we heard.

It wouldn’t be a coaching carousel without baseless rumors involving us and Arkansas. At least we came out on the right side of this one.
I feel bad for Ole Miss.

Every coach they would have pursued is off the table before their job even officially opens. Where do they turn?
My wife is an Ole Miss alum so I have a bit of a vested interest in that my wife’s happiness = my happiness.

Consensus among rival fans on that thread is that we made a great hire.

I have learned one thing from this coaching search, and that’s that nobody knows a damn thing about anything.

Being an Auburn fan is being constantly pissed and not even knowing who to be pissed at. Cohen is the easy target here, but do we really know it’s him hamstringing coaching candidates and not the PTB hamstringing Cohen?
So firing Cohen would accomplish nothing but instant gratification to a pissed off fanbase, and a false sense of hope that things will ever change.

FWIW Arkansas fans have been melting pretty hard too.
Potential melts currently loading for LSU and Ole Miss fans.
What we have here is a good old-fashioned SEC melt-off.
