Was just about to post this. Fun to re-live that year. Still not sure if I think money changed hands or not. The audio of Cecil always seemed like it was pretty damning for him at least soliciting money.
Have no trouble hating Mullen more though.

I'm think he got money but it was more in line with what everyone got than 180k imo

it irks me how Auburn fans defended Cam during the season, then after immense pressure from the media, changed sides and now thinks he got paid despite any proof whatsoever. Mind control is real

Yeah I mean I am in that camp. I defended Auburn and now don’t really know what I think. I don’t think Cam himself received money but I think Cecil might have

iirc, Cecil and one of the MIss St handlers worked out a deal to pay him money, but Miss St reported it to the NCAA instead of paying up. NCAA let Cam slide bc he was unaware of his dad asking for money. He then signed with Auburn once the NCAA cleared him to sign with a college team.
Then once Auburn started becoming successful, Dan Mullin and Urban Meyer both stabbed him in the back. Dan sold him out to ESPN and urban released Cam's private info that caused him to be fired or ie "resign for personal health issues" because FL could have lost their accreditation over the info leaked.

I watched both. He’s been pretty consistent that us having 22 seniors was a huge factor in his decision. Plus he viewed Auburn as more talented and he was just trying to get to the NFL.

I think it’s more who gives a frick now. Did he gay paid? I have no idea. We won the championship, cleared of everything so who cares now.
Easier to just say yeah he got paid and move on.

Exactly. Doesn’t affect my view. I watched us win a natty in Glendale and we are past the point of them even being able to try to make us forfeit and now players are openly getting paid. It’s over. Cam was paid 3 million, cam was paid nothing at all.. idgaf

MSU fans will always believe they were innocent victims in that whole deal, when they had a shady street agent taking part in recruiting weekends.
So much of the accepted narrative falls apart when applying the tiniest bit of logic. If Cecil was “shopping Cam to the highest bidder” then why did all the other schools recruiting him say that he didn’t ask for money? Furthermore, if he did have his hand out, please explain to me how he knows to approach Kenny Rogers?
One thing that disappoints me about the interview and the others he has done discussing this, is he still hasn’t ripped chris fowler the new one he deserves for his jim gray-esque interview at the Heisman ceremony.
