Here's the unfortunate reality. If things continue as they currently stand we can not compete at the highest levels of college football.

How many schools do you think will be able to?

You'd think at some point this madness has to stop.

I think a few 6-7 like season, regardless of who the coach is, will piss the big money guys off and we will be in the mix. Hope that's not what it takes to make it happen

I've thought about it.

My best guess would be Texas, A&M, USC (if they want to), Ohio State, ND (if they want to), Alabama (because they want to), maybe UGA, maybe Michigan

That would be awful for college football in every way.

Ohio State

Michigan

Notre Dame

Oregón (because of Nike)

Alabama

Texas

USC

A&M

Georgia

Auburn would only be relevant if we could find a get to get Yellswood and Apple to chip in - but Tim Cook doesn’t necessarily control that - he does owe fiduciary duties to the company

Oklahoma probably has a bunch of rich oil people somewhere out there

You’d think Auburn being Under Armor’s premier team would make them want to load us up like Nike does Oregon.

Difference is the owner of Nike is an Oregon alum and major booster.

The owner of UA is a Maryland alum.

If Williams doesn’t come to Auburn, I hope he goes with Charlie Batch and Eastern Michigan.

I think it will be a similar 15 schools in the mix, but adding or dropping schools that are historically are or aren't football powers (e.g., aTm). Most of this I assume is going to be based on endowment/alumni.

The other thing I thought about that is not being discussed is what about schools with absurd endowments and alumni? Like the Ivy League. There is so much research that exists that is empirically causal that shows the better your sports programs are, the more applications and interest you recieve. For a place like an Ivy League school, if you won't do NIL for football even, why not basketball or baseball? Or many of the other sports?

I know this, but it’s good advertising for your business to have your premier program doing really well. Nobody watches Maryland. Auburn is one of the most watched teams every single season.

Sooo, basically it will look like it has always looked- the same tired names at the top. These schools already had a money pipeline in place. Now, it’s just turned up to 11.

The only saving grace being those rosters can only be so big. Currently at 105 so there's hope.

Under Armour is having a ton of financial troubles. I honestly don't think they have the money to load anyone up.

And apparently he and Mario Williams are in LA on a visit as we speak.

Mario Williams posted an IG story from his hotel room with what looks like some USC swag in the background.

I’d be surprised if they ended up back with Riley. Dude ran away from them before. I’d have a hard time trusting him to stick around if an NFL team came calling.
