Tuition is a drop in the hate with a million in the bank, could probably just write it off as a business expense. Unless they have to be on scholarship to get NIL?

The school that went to the bowl gets all their expenses paid for from the bowl money as well and then what is left is what is divvied up.

If you recall the NFL struggled (still somewhat does) with this a lot. Teams were paying their draft picks crazy money and many ended up being busts. The change really came because veterans were bothered that busts were making more than them.

That "fans in the stands" comment very well may happen with the players and TBH they aren't wrong. If you look back on the Cam Newton run in 2010, what would be the right price tag for him? $5mm? $10mm? I'm honestly not sure but it is definitely higher than any of the coaches.

The idea of a player transferring and paying his own tuition is wild and something I hadn't thought of. Pretty interesting conceptually.

Here is where the market will implode, I think. In the NFL, The players that do make more than coaches are proven talent, at the college level at minimum. How many five star recruit busts have we had? Plus, how many of them were spoiled prima Donna’s who were worshipped in their hometown? Ok, so now you’ve just given one of these privileged, unproven at the college level talents more money than his Coordinator. How long before his coach tells him to do something, and that player says - man, I make more than you! ? How long before the “I put fans in the stands” argument comes up? This is heading to where we don’t want it to go.

You already have that with coaches at the college level. Apart from a list of a handful of proven guys, everyone else is paid an exuberant amount of money in the HOPE that they'll succeed. How is that any different? Mel Tucker is making $8-9 mill a year because he had ONE good season at Michigan State. Shane Beamer's base salary is just under $3 mill I think, and before this season he had never even been a coordinator, let alone a head coach. It's really no different.

For your other point, these players still want to become high draft picks in the NFL and succeed there, because that's where the actual money is. Some of these critiques are a bit silly - none of these players are going to assume their life is set because they made $1 million in college. To get to the NFL they still need to behave and play nice; the NFL conducts interviews and speaks to college coaches. You already had guys who were uncoachable in college who surprise surprise ended up going in the late rounds or undrafted, and that was it for their professional careers. I'm sure you'll see some players implode from fame or money or ego (just like the same thing happens in the NFL) but at the end of the day there is still a massive incentive for these guys to behave and not cause problems, because their college career is literally an interview for the NFL.

I spread the hate around on bitching about the money. I’ve complained about coaching contracts since Saban passed $4 million

USC qb entered the portal.

And that was last week for me.

Maybe now people can give up on this pipe dream. No idea how people let themselves believe Caleb Williams had any chance to come here. Calzada will be the starter next year.

You referring to the Calzada commitment? I thought it was also being reported that Harsin wanted 2 QBs from the portal?

It does seem like the USC QB was waiting it out but now has been told someone else is coming in at QB, that pretty much knocks him out as the starter...

I didn’t think the other QB would be Williams. As many have mentioned, it just doesn’t make a lot of sense for him.

I’m intrigued by Dart. He’s from the mountain west area and as someone in the ‘crootin thread pointed out: Harsin has to know him.

Those kids don’t often come to the SEC, though.

What are you talking about?

Caleb Williams to Auburn on the 12th. It’s a done deal. We’ve gone over this

That would make it highly likely Caleb Williams heading to USC.

Is Dart worth giving a look? Don't know much about him.

hearing UCLA with Dart. It does seem being from UTah he is going to try to stay otu west. And I am sure he has been checking on his options behind the scenes.

Maybe Harsin can use those west coach connections and get in on Dart.
