The North Alabama Lions will face the Auburn Tigers for the first time ever on the gridiron in 2028, the school announced on Monday.

North Alabama will travel to take on Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Ala., on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2028.

“Aligning a future matchup with an in-state SEC opponent has been a scheduling priority for our football program,” said UNA Director of Athletics Dr. Josh Looney. “This will be an incredible experience for our University, fans and alumni. Our coaching staff is closely connected to the Auburn program. We appreciate athletic director John Cohen and head coach Hugh Freeze for the invitation to visit Jordan-Hare Stadium.”

I used to be a bleacher creature there as a tot. Attended all the championship games as well.

I served under the mighty Mark Hudspeth, a jock that Harsin set out to become.

I dont remember the previous coach much at all.

I like it AU plays various schools around the state to help promote their program, like this year AU plays Alabama A&M. Never see UAT do this.

I have to wonder if playing Alabama A&M is why we got ESPN+ though.

Only 40% of the state is going to care about that game in an intrastate matchup

Yeah it doesn’t do much for exposure but I’m glad for this teams sake we aren’t opening up against a team like Clemson

I got my Bachelors from UNA. I was honestly sad to see them move to FCS, but I understand it.

I like it too. If we are going to pay a boatload of money to play these type teams, might as well let the money stay in the state as much as possible.

It is, but part of the ESPN/SEC Network contract is that every team has one game on ESPN+/SEC Network+ each season. Go ahead and get it out of the way early.

I was up that way on business recently and drove through that campus just to see it. That's a beautiful town and school.

I just heard about this too. I’m stoked. This is my Alma Mater for both my Bachelors and Masters.

Great school and town.

Part of me wishes that we had stayed D-II, but hey, now I can watch them play against my Tigers.

Cool! If you were there for the championship years, then you watched me play.

I dont remember the kickers a whole lot. But Will Hall was my favorite player by a mile. He coaches for Southern Miss now.
