2026 vs 2025 Talent & Coaching

Was thinking about talent under Golesh vs last year w/Freeze
QB + BB clearly an upgrade from Arnold
RB + Cobb is gonna have a monster year. Omar gonna have to step up. The kid from Baylor will be a bust.
WR - Hard to lose Cam Coleman, Eric singleton, and Malcolm Simmons and say it’s positive.
TE +/- Can’t be worse than Preston Howard but we’re unproven here
C - I like Cole Best as a leader but Connor Lew will be tough to top
G - Dillon Wade and J. Wright are both playing in Sundays
T + I’m gonna hedge and say we’re better here on potential. Murphy was okay and Chaplain couldn’t keep the snap count straight.
S + We’re stacked this year
CB - like WR it’s hard to lose Crawford and Lee and say it’s a positive
LB ++ I think we are going to have the best LB corps we’ve have since 2004
DE - Losing Keyron, McCloud, and Amaris Williams is tough.
DL +/— lost Blocton and Keldrick which hurts but Autry and Jourdin Crawford will help. Might be even to slightly down. Eager to see Cody Sigler in action. Getting Dallas back helps too.
Coaching ++ I love this staff. Head and shoulders above last year. Way better leadership and organization.

Worst thing about last year is that we absolutely had the talent to take a step forward and Freeze just refused to do it.

Nice breakdown. The only thing I would offer is that in a few positions, where you mentioned the departed but not returning or an addition. You did at DL.
We can just combine DE and Edge if you want but I believe Darrion and Jared Smith have a higher ceiling than the players you mentioned. We have several guys that are inexperienced but very talented, and will make a name for themselves this season.
As far as the WRs go, would you rather have WRs that are uber talented but misused, or WRs that fit well in a system and play to their potential?
And my last point, I think I see more positives than negatives in your post

Sorry, but Cam Coleman learned nothing at Auburn. Still nothing but a talented High School ball player. He better hope someone teaches him how to hold to a ball and play every down as if it’s his last.

It’ll be interesting to see how he is utilized at Texas with a QB that can get him the ball. I’ll agree that he needs to learn to catch the easy ones, but he made some incredible grabs last year with guys draped all over him. I don’t begrudge his talent, but his attitude sucked last year what with the dual wrist watches and me me me disposition. But I blame that on coaching and culture more than I do a young kid with a lot of money.

Cam seemed to give up early on last year when it was clear Freezus didnt give a shite about the season
hell, we all pretty much gave up about 5-6 games in when it became apparent even to the “we’re close” crowd that he didn’t have the first clue how to turn things around and subsequently decided to work on his golf game instead
i dont blame Cam or anyone else on last year’s team for playing out the string
i will be very surprised if Coleman doesn’t obliterate his stats from the previous two seasons, even with an overrated QB like Arch

If Colman doesn’t wise up and learn football….he’ll be a fast nobody in due time.
Terry Beasley was taught to run in the SEC. The message was clear….the Defensive Backs are as fast as you are. You to learn when to shift gears and make separation. The final is a QB capable of hitting windows. We’ll see how he progresses. Right now he’s nothing but an over rated high school showboat.

I have watched both WR groups live. Last year had more talent, but this group is better at playing the position

I think this group will definitely be better at all the other small things that are invovled with being a receiver than we've had in year's past. Hell, just having some guys that will get dirty in the blocking/run game will be a big benefit and ultimately help sell play action and stuff more, if the DB's are worried about that on plays instead of being able to just focus on coverage knowing they won't get blown up

We aren’t a passing team, let’s be real. We are a run first, dominant defense type of team. Always have been and unless something changes, always will be. It is our bread and butter and how we made a name for ourselves. QBs that can run have always given us a chance

The game is no longer the same. These are not amateur players anymore. With NIL money in place, they are professionals and should be treated as such.
That means, the immature brat no longer deserves the luxury of taking plays off anymore. He doesn’t deserve that excuse. He’s getting paid and should be man enough to produce. Should he get to the next level. He’ll be expected to give 100 % at all times.
Stop making worthless excuses for players that need to grow up and be men. Right now, today, half hearted Coleman is worth nothing more than last play result.

I think the biggest positive we have this season is creating continuity in a coaching change.
Offensively, importing the QB, the C, and the WRs from Golesh's system at SFla is a big win for having players who know the system already. They are talented enough to compete, especially if the defense can put in close to last year's performance.
Defensively we have scheme continuity with DJ, and kept some very important defensive pieces overall.
The negatives I foresee?
The rest of the Online. Like on some levels how can they be worse than years previous, but Auburn is nothing if not consistent in finding ways to dig deeper into disappointment these days. And it looks very cobbled together so far.
CB play. Our pass coverage (especially 3rd and long) has been consistently infuriating, and we lost some good talent in this position while the SEC as a whole seems to be stacking offensive talent.

Something Jason Caldwell wrote about today that I didn’t think about is getting everyone together to bond during camp. Guys live hither and yon now, some in apartments, some in houses they’ve bought. Golesh is being everyone in to a hotel for camp. It’ll be interesting to see if that pays off. I think it will. There hasn’t been one move he’s made that I haven’t liked and become enthusiastic about.

Go back and watch the Florida and Alabama games from 25 and 24. Golesh offense is not super flashy but highly efficient. They controlled clock in both games and put Florida away because of it. They got outdone in the 4th by bama but played them close for 3. I think we will be an efficient team year 1 and not flashy and be more of an Indiana than an Oregon. I hope that’s the case.

For shites and giggles I have watched 2 simulations of our games with Georgia and Tennessee coming up.
It’s unreal how much EA Sports has made the new college football game look like the real thing. It blew me away.
Oh and speaking of “blew” we went to Athens and blew out ( won by 2 TDs while beating Rocky Top 59-28.)
We were basically throwing a lot of short and intermediate stuff and looked a lot like a West Coast offense, but our run game was a monster. Brown and Cobb went absolutely nuts in both of those games.
