The pursuit of 2023 Thomas County Central (Ga.) receiver/defensive back Adam Hopkins was full of intrigue. Texas A&M, Florida State, Arkansas, and Kansas State were in the running, but in the end the Auburn Tigers landed the four-star prospect.

WHAT THE TIGERS ARE GETTING

The Tigers are getting a two-way talent that has shinned against 6A Georgia competition. Coming up through the ranks as a receiver, Hopkins added corner to his game last fall receiving offers from Georgia, Florida State, and Arkansas as a defender with Penn State offering on both sides of the ball.

Through eight games played last season, Hopkins was credited with 15 stops, two picks, and an impressive 12 passes broken up. Hopkins led his Yellow Jackets squad in receptions (28) and receiving yards (357) as a junior. He is off to a highly productive senior campaign turning 10 receptions into three touchdowns.

WHAT MAKES HOPKINS DIFFERENT

Hopkins is a dynamic playmaker with great athleticism. The straight-ahead speed separates Hopkins from others. There is a second gear most do not have that Hopkins has turning on the jets to beat an angle for an explosive play. There is a swagger and confidence Hopkins brings to the field that helps him win battles while firing up the team as an emotional leader.

WHY THIS IS BIG FOR AUBURN

The Tigers 2023 recruiting class has been slow to build momentum, adding Hopkins is another win for the coaching staff. The one thing that sticks out, of the eight verbal commits, six are four-star talents. Hopkins brings more SEC speed and athleticism to the Tigers’ roster with the ability to play on the outside and inside on offense.

RECRUITING NOTES

Auburn hosted Hopkins on an official Sept. 10 helping close the deal. Hopkins had planned officials lined up with Arkansas on Oct. 1 and Kansas State Nov. 5.

I know everyone is bummed on losing English, but honestly, Hopkins offsets that loss completely.

I haven't seen Hopkins in person, but he's got good film. I have seen English in person and frankly, wasn't impressed. Dude is tiny and we certainly don't need more of that at the WR position. Hopkins isn't big by any stretch of the imagination, but he's bigger than KE.

I'm not gonna get riled up over losing a kid ranked 162 and replacing him with a kid ranked 25 spots lower but bigger. None of us are happy with the job being done on the trail by this staff, but the events of yesterday and this morning don't move the needle for me.

A little more on Hopkins:

quote:

When speaking with the Tigers’ coaches on the phone, he had good conversations. He bonded with multiple staffers, including wide receivers coach Ike Hilliard.

Those relationships made the difference for Hopkins. He committed to Auburn on Thursday over programs including Arkansas, Florida State, Kansas State and Texas A&M.

“I’m talking to all of them,” Hopkins told On3 about his connection with the Tigers’ staff. “At this moment, I have bonds with all these guys. At the other schools, I just have bonds with a few people and I really don’t know the others… With them, I just have everybody bonding with me. That’s cool. I’ve never had that before.”

I still think its going to be interesting to see which side of the ball he ends up on. He's a good WR, but pretty much everyone says he's a better DB. I imagine he give him a shot at WR first and then if it doesn't work he makes the switch. Him and Sorey both have the ability to end up on either side of the ball.

Big big weekend for recruiting. The game itself is important to coach Harsin’s future but maybe even more important is getting recruiting momentum from this group visiting. If we don’t land some of the big dog OL at the game then we are headed for mostly backup plans

And no I’m not talking about G. Wilson. He’s a backup to a backup’s backup already

I don't think PSU is do or die, it's good to win, but not a career killer.

5:45 mark if you want skip speeches

Every game is do or die for Harsin, he needs every win he can get to survive. As we saw last year, Harsin let things snow ball in the wrong direction after Bo got hurt. If he does the same this year, he will be waiting on that buyout to hit direct deposit sooner than later

We need at least 1 so we can bust the top 50 and show some muscle

Only bad thing about having guys who are already committed and are just on a vacation trip is them working against your recruiting efforts with the other guys.
