We are likely Freshwater's Super Bowl this year.

If he can run it up, I am sure he will.

But, my bet is he will be coaching on tilt the entire time.

Just saw something from Roberts saying Faulk is in the hunt for the starting role

I gotta be honest, he's one that I'm really excited about. I think he may just be that pass rusher that we have been missing for a couple years.
AL.com has an article about the defensive front out and Faulk is still doing his thing and getting players talking about him.
quote:

Senior defensive lineman Marcus Harris said part of Faulk’s transition to defensive end is learning how to deal with double-teams from blockers he might not have seen as a jack linebacker. Harris added that in high school, Faulk played in defenses built around him, but that’s not the case anymore in college. So, his adjustment to a new position is going to come with time.

“He’s just a raw talent,” Harris said. “He’s just learning how to play within the defense. That’s a big thing he did during the offseason. He learned how to fit into the defense and not just freelance.”

Faulk practiced with the second-team defense in the defensive end spot during Auburn’s first few fall practices. Roberts said it’s possible Faulk wins the starting job

His versatility is going to be big I think. The front 7 had the most questions because of depth concerns but the staff has done a good job of stabilizing the group imo. The article goes on to talk about Roger's, McLeod, McAllister, etc. So if they live up to potential, it should be a solid group.
quote:

Harris said the combination of Rogers and Jones — a combined 684 pounds of run-stopping might — will be big for the defense against the other run-heavy teams in the SEC.

quote:

Others along the defensive coach have caught coaches’ eyes already in fall camp too. Add another big man up front in Iowa transfer Quientrail “Bobby” Jamison-Travis. Appalachian State transfer Jalen McLeod who Roberts said is a “special talent” when he’s chasing quarterbacks. There’s still Vanderbilt transfer Elijah McAllister and Maryland transfer Mosiah Nasili-Kite. The defensive line could make up at least eight of the 25 ready-to-go guys Roberts is looking for.

quote:

“Seeing the young guys improve from the spring to fall camp has been wonders,” Harris said. “I didn’t expect those guys to transition this fast. That’s the good thing about fall camp and the offseason we had, we had time to train and get those young guys prepared for stepping into roles they might have to this season.”

That last quote tells me we have some good coaches who understand the importance of the younger players/transfers. It's refreshing to hear things like that basically saying the learning curve has been shortened so these guys can contribute pretty early when called upon. I really like what I've heard from Roberts so far. Hopefully his persona actually comes through in the season with the defensive performance.

This is what the depth chart is showing as of 8/3/23.

Obviously I do not know how accurate and it's open to change through camp

Making sure my mind is still sharp.

Dillon Wade - was the starting left tackle for Tulsa? Came over with Montgomery.

Jeremiah Wright - was here last year. Know who he is.

Avery Jones- He was a touted transfer from ECU right?

Tate Johnson- Think he’s always been on the team? Has he played at all? What do we think of him?

Gunner Britton - WKU guy?

I think currently as it stands in practice

LT Wade
LG Tate
C Jones
RG Stutts
RT Britton

2nd team

LT Langlo
RG Wright
C Lew
LG Muskrat/Irvin
LT Miller

Both starting and 2nd string guard positions are still in battle. So any combination would not shock me. I think we will know more after Saturdays scrimmage and evaluation.

FWIW I’ve read Miller is the backup for both the tackle spots.

I wish I could show you the Tate Johnson interview and he kind of breaks down the OL competition some and talks about some of the other players.

Here's some snippets

quote:

“The thing about the offensive line group this year is that there’s so many new guys in the room and throughout spring and summer I feel like we have really gelled well. Under the leadership of Coach Thornton, he is just pushing us to be our very best every day and he doesn’t accept anything other than the highest quality and the highest standard. Being the leaders of the team. I feel like practice has gone really well so far.

“I feel like a big part of the process of gelling as a unit doesn’t happen on the field, it happens off the field. This year, with this new group of offensive linemen, that is something we have done well. Spring and summer, the whole time, we have really tried to hang out off the field, talk off the field, and really just be real friends. Not just friends because we have to be. Actually be friends, go do stuff together. When you create a bond like that, it makes it so much easier to go out there and play for the guy next to you. I feel like that’s what we have done a great job of.”

quote:

There’s a really nice battle at both guard spots brewing. Johnson is battling for a starting position along with Jeremiah Wright, Kam Stutts and Jaden Muskrat, with EJ Harris and Bradyn Joiner working to earn snaps as freshmen. Stutts seems poised to start, with Johnson or Wright starting opposite, and Muskrat working to earn more repetitions with the “1s.”

“There’s a ton of us and I feel like that is great. … all of these guards that are battling for the guard spot, it’s awesome. All these guys are super talented and competition does nothing but bring the best out in everyone. If everyone is bringing it every day, you can’t just come in and take a day off. You have to bring your best every day to make sure no one is pulling ahead of you. The competition at the guard position specifically has just helped us bring it every single day.”

quote:

What’s the story with Tulsa transfer, Muskrat?

“Jaden is awesome, I’m really proud of what he has done so far. He played tackle at Tulsa, so he is very athletic. That is a super good quality for an inside guy. The thing about Jaden is he brings it every day. He comes out of practice and goes hard every rep no matter what. That is something that is important in an SEC lineman, he goes hard all the time. He’s just done great so far.”

quote:

Watch out for Connor Lew in the future, maybe even this season. The true freshman is playing behind transfer Avery Jones at center, but continues to garner high praise from players and coaches alike.

“I can’t say enough about Connor, he is awesome. He’s a great guy, I love being around Connor. He is a great friend to have. I’m blessed to call him a friend because he’s so smart, he’s a pilot. He’s such a smart guy, he picks up the offense very well. He knows all the calls to make

quote:

Northwestern transfer Dylan Senda is wasting no time to make an impression. He worked some with the “2s” during Tuesday’s practice.

“Dylan is a beast, man. He’s a great guy and he wants to be really good, he cares and he is big and powerful. He’s a smart guy. Like i said about Connor, I can’t say enough good things about Dylan.”

Senda and Lew probably won’t start this year unless we get banged up, but they’re both going to be All SEC Type players.
